The Position:

We’re on the hunt for a robotic Mission Operations Engineer, in our Robotics and Space Operations team on-site (Hybrid) at our Brampton Ontario office.

In this role, the candidate will support the mission operations team through mathematical analysis and modelling required to analyze on-orbit tasks for the International Space Station, including contact dynamics and CAD modelling of robotic systems and their operations. The candidate will document their work and participate in system level technical discussions when required, including customer interaction with the Canadian Space Agency and NASA. This role is unique where the candidate will be further supporting the company servers and providing IT support in order to sustain program operations.

Additionally, the successful candidate will participate in end-to-end mission design and analysis including:

  • Robotic simulation and analysis such as:
    • Kinematic analysis and path planning
    • Robotic interface contact dynamics modelling
    • Development of mission-specific display and control parameters
    • Dynamic simulations and contingency operations analysis
  • Human-in-the-loop simulation assessments
  • Review of on-orbit procedures
  • Flight following and Performance monitoring
  • On-orbit Off-Nominal/Anomaly investigations
  • Support the mission operations & analysis team in the IT and DevOps sustainment domain, which includes:
    • Understanding the hardware and software that is relied upon to perform robotics simulations and analyses
    • Troubleshoot issues relating to the Linux cluster and software configuration which impact analyses or support to on-orbit operations
    • Assist with server patching & updating, testing, and troubleshooting
    • Assist developers and users in the creation and running of analysis code and applications, with an emphasis on maximizing simulation throughput and minimizing errors and re-work
    • Identify risks to server availability and develop mitigation techniques to ensure continuous access to mission-critical software tools, processes, and analysis data

QUALIFICATIONS:

Interested candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Engineering Physics, or Computer Engineering and/or Applied Mathematics or Physics. A strong ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as a member of a team is required.   

  • Preferably, the applicant should have some exposure to space operations and/or have a passion for human spaceflight exploration.
  • Experience in DevOps and IT support:
    • Experience with Linux is essential
    • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash/Python
    • Experience with compiled coding languages (C++, FORTRAN) is an asset
    • Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) or Cluster computing is an asset
  • Experience in simulation or dynamics analysis is an asset
  • A strong ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as a member of a team is required
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills are essential to this position

The compensation range for this position is $78,741.00 - $100,709.00 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
