Job description

As a Welder at Impulse, you will have the unique of opportunity of working on developmental space hardware for vehicles yet to fly! Partner with our manufacturing & design teams to build next-gen hardware. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform setup and operation of various welding systems
  • Perform cleaning, grinding, blending and filing to prepare joints for welding/inspections on various metals
  • Perform welding on space vehicles, ground support equipment, and fluid systems 
  • Perform tube fabrication operations such as cutting, bending, flaring, and installation of fittings and seals
  • Interface with engineering to identify work instructions and recommend welding improvements
  • Use basic shop tools such as saws, mills, drill presses, hand routers, de-burr tools, rotary tools, and sanders
  • Operate jacks, cranes, forklifts, and heavy machinery
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Review work instructions and specifications, and complete work buyoffs electronically as the work is being performed 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 7+ years of welding experience (i.e. TIG, FSW, OTW, laser) in a development or production manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in welding aerospace grade materials such as aluminum, Inconel, stainless steel, and copper
  • Basic understanding of causes of weld defects and subsequent repair processes 
  • Active AWS D17.1 and/or D1.2 certification 
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints. Understands drawing symbols, flag notes, and section views

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with welding large vehicle/ground system structures and weld tooling fabrication
  • Experience with or certification in GTAW/TIG welding
  • Experience with or certification in orbital tube welding (OTW), skilled in tube fabricator
  • Experience with automated/motion-controlled friction stir or laser welding machines
  • Experience with and/or performing non-destructive inspections such as VT, PT, PAUT, RT, MPI 
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience welding on ground support equipment, rocket engines, launch vehicles, or spacecraft

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
