Sierra Space Careers: Dare to Dream

We honor those that are not afraid to dream big dreams, those that tenaciously chase their dreams even when others say it cannot be done, those that achieve big dreams and change everything. Those are Dreams Worth Chasing.

At Sierra Space we envision a future where humanity lives and works in space, on moons, and on distant planets. Our mission isn’t restricted to the few, instead we see a future where all people can choose to live, work, discover and explore beyond our planet. Our company is building a platform in space to benefit life on Earth and together we will alter the course of humanity.

We have a bold mission. We are a bold company. Together, we are an extraordinary team.

About the Role

As a Technical Writer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and updating process plans and manufacturing specifications for our multi-panel deployable Solar Array programs. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the innovative processes used to build our solar arrays, including our patented pick-and-place surface mount solar cell technology, which is set to revolutionize space-rated solar power systems.

Working closely with the manufacturing engineering team, you will enhance and standardize our build and process documentation for both new and existing product lines, impacting every aspect of our production center. Your clear and concise documentation will be crucial in achieving significant efficiency gains, both out on the production floor and within the Manufacturing Engineering team.

  • Provide hands-on support to the Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams to gather insights and improvements for documentation.

  • Assist with new program introduction by identifying the need for new specifications, determining the specification library structure, and developing documentation alongside process owners

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the aerospace or solar power industry.

  • Proven expertise in creating technical documentation, including process planning and specifications.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in technical writing tools and software.

  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes and familiarity with industry standards and protocols.

  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight.

  • Strong work ethic and drive to succeed.

  • Willingness to work occasional long hours and weekends.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience producing documentation for J-STD-001 Class 2, IPC-A-610 Class 2, or equivalent hardware.

  • Hands-on experience with optimizing pick and place machines, reflow oven, conformal coating, or through-hole soldering systems.

  • Experience with wire harness routing, integration, and testing.
