The Role:

MDA is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer/MTS. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing Engineering, from initial design/”proof of principle” hardware, through to the assembly and Integration & Test phase. The role of a Manufacturing Engineer is to determine to most safe and efficient way to produce and test a product.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Designing of build and test processes
  • Evaluates manufacturing methods/processes based on proven experience and best practices for commercial and aerospace industry ; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors
  • Improves company manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Internally control (tools and processes) to execute and deliver final products
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods and equipment; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering information to the engineering/program organizations
  • Completes design and development projects by guiding technicians.
  • Act as point of contact for assistance in troubleshooting and resolving assembly and piece part level issues
  • Participate in product development meetings and make recommendations for product design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly
  • Determine requirements, select and acquire new capital test equipment through working with the Program & Engineering team
  • Create and maintain a capacity model for all capital equipment
  • Maintain all capital equipment and ensure they are aligned to any provincial standards

Job Requirements/Education:

Interested candidates must possess 4+ years of relevant experience, and a combination of:

  • Mechanical and/or Manufacturing Engineering degree
  • Green Belt lean certified
  • Candidate must have a wide range of experience in Space/Aerospace and Commercial DFM (Design for Manufacture).
  • Experience in production and test layout design including ergonomics & safety
  • Candidate must have extensive experience in accurately estimating part and assembly labour, lead time & cycle time based on incomplete detail drawings or from layout drawings)
  • Experience with how product flows through the shop floor with router creation
  • Experience in lean principles (VA/NVA, cycle times, lead times, VSM)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with a strong emphasis on Excel, knowledge of MRP systems
  • Excellent planning capabilities, organizational skills, ability to work under time constraints
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills are essential to this position.  


Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $94K - $110K annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
