Northrop Grumman Mission System’s Navigation, Targeting and Survivability (NTS) Division has an immediate opening for a Program Director for the LITENING Targeting Pod Production and Sustainment business within our Targeting Systems Operating Unit. This position will be located at our Rolling Meadows, IL facility, requiring travel to other Northrop Grumman facilities, customer, and supplier sites as needed. This position reports directly to the Targeting Systems Operating Unit Director and will be a full-time onsite position.

As the portfolio lead for LITENING Production and Sustainment programs, the Director is responsible for a portfolio with over $100M in yearly revenue with multiple domestic and international programs. The Director will be tasked with ensuring successful execution of existing programs, as well as the strategic pursuit of new business opportunities to grow the portfolio. In addition, the director will be responsible for the management and people leadership of a team of program managers leading the various programs and pursuits in the portfolio. This is a leadership position with daily executive interactions, and the successful candidate must display consistent impeccable judgment and embody Northrop Grumman leadership behaviors. The successful candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels, including executive leadership.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Advocating and implementing the OU Director’s vision, mission, and goals
  • Manage Portfolio revenue, operating margin and cash performance.
  • Lead a high-performance team of Program Managers, 7-10 FTEs
  • Strategically identifying and timely planning for capital expenditures for assigned Portfolio
  • Providing overall vision, leadership and direction to the program team (to include development of team members, team engagement, issue resolution, and initiating corrective actions)
  • Providing leadership and direction to dotted line functional managers and operations to ensure management of all phases of execution from proposal development through contract closeout is successfully achieved.
  • Strategically planning through directing program and portfolio strategy development that integrates with the overall business and strategy; and participating in the business strategic and NCTA planning processes
  • Identifying and managing key NCTA investments to maintain and grow the market segment while providing proper budget oversight
  • Managing program risk and opportunity process. Lead team through the Identification of potential risks and opportunities that could impact portfolio performance and taking proactive action to resolve issues regarding cost, schedule, prioritization, and resource allocation.
  • Establishing and clearly communicating overall portfolio objectives, mission, vision and strategy – building morale and supporting team needs.
  • Driving timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations to senior leadership, the program team, and management team.
  • Building and maintaining successful relationships with current and prospective customers and coordinating effectively with functional leadership and teams.
  • Managing proposal teams and providing timely commitment reviews with senior leadership.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 10 or more years of experience supporting US Government or commercial contracts and customers and/or project management in other industries
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead the program team daily.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage revenue, operating margin, and cash performance of programs.
  • Mastery of project management skills and techniques including experience in: leading Integrated Program Teams (IPTs), Work Breakdown Structures (WBSs), Integrated Master Scheduling (IMS), and Earned Value (EV) measurement.
  • Demonstrated experience working with internal and external customers to ensure project success.
  • Strong formal and informal communication skills with all levels of internal and external management.
  • Ability to communicate with senior leadership and outline potential opportunities, proposal schedules, financial positions, and proposed risks.
  • Ability to operate and lead in team environment and teach and mentor others to manage in same way – a strong willingness to learn, take initiative and resolve issues.
  • Ability to resolve disputes and negotiate with positive outcome while maintaining good relationships with customers.
  • Ability to manage risk to reduce likelihood and severity of program impacts.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent organizational skills
  • Must be a US Citizen and have an active DoD Secret Clearance or DoE equivalent
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration and/or advanced technical or national security strategy field.
  • Defense Industry and DoD contract experience
  • Prior experience with leading Profit and Loss for a Business and/ Market Segment
  • Program Management or Functional Management experience in electro-optical systems
  • Experience with international programs and/or customers
  • Familiarity with the ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) process
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $200,100.00 - $300,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
