Summary

Redwire Space has a current opportunity for an experienced Navigational System Engineer at our Marlborough, MA facility (open to all staff levels or higher). Willing to consider both Remote and Onsite work environment for highly qualified candidates. This role will use digital and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to design, develop, integrate, and test star tracker attitude solution systems. This individual will serve as senior technical leader to the star tracker product line and will be instrumental in its success.  In additional to technical leadership, this role will have significant collaboration with the business development team to attract and win major new business. The ideal candidate will be motivated, positive, and able to work effectively in a challenging fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as senior technical leader to the business to develop Digital Engineering and MBSE processes and procedures for star tracker attitude solution systems
  • Identify areas where satellite operations accuracy and efficiency can be improved, especially in the areas of flight dynamics and attitude control systems
  • Generate quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics
  • Engage with customers regularly with reports on analysis and development status, activities, and achievements
  • Familiarize with COTS and GOTS systems and tools in support for satellite flight dynamics, attitude control, and subsystem data analysis
  • Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff
  • Work with software, hardware, and FPGA engineers to propose and develop solution(s) to meet system specifications including performance requirements
  • Work with the team to draft and release relevant documentation such as requirements specifications, design specifications, test requirements, and design documents
  • Collaborate on the development of Agile Epics & Stories to meet project objectives
  • Create, organize, and estimate tasks required to meet story objectives including verification and/or demonstration
  • Collaborate with our System Test team on test concepts, plans, and integration of testing into the development cycle
  • Present and defend solutions to other Engineers and customers (as required)
  • Work cross functionally on projects with other teams across Redwire Space
  • Occasional travel may be required for customer meetings and program milestone support
Ideal Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, systems, computer science, or similar field. Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 or more years of experience as systems engineer or closely related discipline
  • Knowledge of the spacecraft lifecycle (I&T, operations, etc.) Troubleshooting spacecraft anomalies, whether as part of design, testing, or operations
  • Experience writing MATLAB or Python scripts to analyze data
  • Experience analyzing overall performance of a spacecraft's Attitude Control System (ACS) and performance or health of some sub-component(s) of a spacecraft's attitude control system (e.g., reaction wheels, star tracker, gyros, etc.)
  • US Citizenship required
Desired Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing star trackers or other celestial navigational sensors
  • Experience in image processing for camera-based sensor applications
  • Experience with optical image sensors in the visible or IR bands
  • Ability to provide technical presentations to management and customers
