Duties
As a Criminal Investigator at the GS-1811-14 grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Policy Analysis and Development: Analyze and develop policies for Investigative Programs to enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Research and Program Evaluation: Conduct research, perform analysis, and evaluate programs to provide actionable recommendations for organizational improvements.
- Special Projects: Lead and execute special projects or assignments as directed to support strategic objectives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a liaison with other business units to identify opportunities, develop collaborative initiatives, and drive integration across the organization.

- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must continually qualify in the use of firearms/weapons.
- Must meet the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
- Must pass a pre-employment medical examination and physical fitness test and continue to successfully pass both requirements annually.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
- This position requires you to satisfactorily complete (or have previously completed) the Criminal Investigation Training Program at Glynco, Georgia, or equivalent federal law enforcement training.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the education and/or experience required for the grade level(s) to which you apply.
To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You must have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:
- Leading complex procurement and/or grant fraud investigations and sensitive administrative investigations involving senior personnel.
- Experience negotiating and otherwise resolving unique, broad, or complex problems.
- Applying laws, regulations, theories, principles and practices of criminal investigations and investigative procedures and techniques.
- Experience interpreting contracting regulations and federal procurement, as well as the ability to trace financial or other transactions and conduct detailed examinations of fiscal accounts and records.
- Applying specialized investigative techniques, devices and procedures, surveillance and undercover work.
- Collecting and securing facts, presenting investigative findings to a U.S. Attorney, Judge or jury and assisting them in preparation for a trial or hearing; bringing the investigation to a logical conclusion.
*This position is a Secondary Law Enforcement position approved for Coverage under 5 U.S.C 8336(c) and 8412(d).
Medical Requirements: The duties of this position requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard too himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactorily complete (or have previously completed) the Criminal Investigation Training Program at Glynco, Georgia, or equivalent federal law enforcement training.
LAW ENFORCEMENT AVAILABILITY PAY (LEAP): LEAP in the amount of 25% has been approved for this position. However, the biweekly maximum earnings limitation for LEO's in 5 U.S.C. 5547(c) applies.

Qualified NASA term employees who have term conversion eligibility (Term Appointments | NASA) under the NASA Flexibility Act of 2004 will be referred and considered equally with other NASA permanent employees under internal competitive placement procedures.
Salary will be determined based on the duty location after selection. The salary listed reflects the 2024 Washington-Baltimore-Arlington salary with 33.26% locality. Salary will be adjusted to meet the locality pay of the duty location upon selection.
