AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.
Summary:
The successful Mechanical Engineering Project Manager will work satellite mechanical subsystems non-recurring (research and development) and recurring/sustaining efforts and activities including engineering, design, analysis, assembly, and testing.
The successful candidate will be innovative, creative, and challenge the status quo. They will work well in teams while also having the ability to lead a small team and to work assignments autonomously.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the project management of the Blue Bird 1 Block 2 Mechanical Subsystems for Flight and Ground Support Equipment
- Actively lead and complete overall project delivery plans, which includes component prioritization, schedules, milestones, and critical path and deliveries
- Develop clear sequence of component detail releases to optimize procurement (i.e., raw material types/sizes, then 3D model for tooling/holding fixture development, then completed 2D Manufacturing drawings)
- Build, track, report and supervise project metrics
- Negotiate time, scope, resources with functional managers to ensure timely deliverable of each project task
- Clearly supervise, report, and communicate regular project status (including scope, schedule, and budget) to AST leadership
- Identify, document, and manage project issues and risks; mitigate, resolve, or escalate appropriately when support is needed from management
- Coordinate completion of all project documentation including drawings, procedures, reports; ensure reviews and signoff/approvals occur in timely fashion
Deliverables:
- Project Schedule for Blue Bird 1 Block 2 Mechanical Subsystems for Flight and Ground Support Equipment
- Assign hours and resources in collaboration with VP Mechanical Engineering
- Track % complete of all deliverables
- Maintain Drawing Release Plan
- Weekly status reports and ad-hoc meetings as necessary
- Develop & maintain material delivery tracking for complete BOM
- Weekly status reports and ad-hoc meetings as necessary
- Project Metrics for schedule, resources, drawing release, and material procurement status
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- US Citizen or US Permanent Resident
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
- 5+ years previous experience working on space projects
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
