The Advanced Concepts and Technologies (AC&T) group of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Engineer Microelectronic Semiconductors for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located outside of Baltimore, Maryland – where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs.

Northrop Grumman’s ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide, and Carbon Nanotubes) and providing leading edge technology development in superconducting electronics. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman’s ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems.


Our multidisciplinary foundry team enables activities from development to sustainment process engineering. ATL is responsible for all aspects of semiconductor technology including design, mask making, wafer fabrication, test, and assembly.

What You’ll get to Do:

The Engineer Microelectronic Semiconductors will lead and manage our on-site helium recovery and liquefaction plant at Northrop Grumman's semiconductor foundry in Baltimore. Central job function will includes ownership of the processing units on both helium recovery network as well as the liquefaction facility. This includes but is not limited to helium compressors, liquefiers, oil separators, line dryers, and storage vessels. Individual will also be responsible for managing the purchase of pure helium from commercial gas suppliers.

Responsibilities include all aspects of the helium facilities and ownership of the daily operations to ensure the site’s supply demand is always met. The chosen candidate will develop and apply continuous improvement programs for the systems; and be responsible for all aspects of project management including working with and direction of contractors/sub-contractors along with alignment with management.

Minimal travel - one to three short trips per year.

Basic Qualifications for Engineer Microelectronic Semiconductors:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering field with minimum of 2 years relevant experience; Master's degree in science or engineering field with 0+ years

  • Experience with equipment installation, operation, and maintenance

  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross organizational teams such as engineering, line maintenance and building maintenance

  • US Citizenship Required

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required

Preferred Qualifications Engineer Microelectronic Semiconductors:

  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs)

  • Experience with compressors and/or liquefier equipment

  • Experience with cryogenic liquids and gas systems

  • Experience interfacing with vendors for equipment repairs, service contracts, and purchasing

Salary Range: $83,300.00 - $124,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
