What You'll Do:

Spire's next-generation AI weather modeling is a big deal. A REALLY big deal. As the Senior AI Weather Scientist on this team, you'll work with other meteorologists and AI experts helping to bring our AI forecast product portfolio into focus and into the hands of our customers. These products generate hundreds of hyper-accurate forecasts at once and can frame unique probability distributions. You will play a pivotal role in advancing our research and development efforts by developing purely data-driven weather prediction models and more. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to push the boundaries of weather prediction.

  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of purely data-driven AI models for weather forecasting, including but not limited to medium range forecasting and sub-seasonal forecasting.
  • Collaborate with meteorologists, scientists, and software engineers to integrate domain knowledge into AI algorithms and models.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, meteorology, and related fields, and evaluate their potential applications to enhance our proprietary modeling.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to the academic and scientific community.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior researchers and contribute to the professional development of the team.
  • Engage with stakeholders from government agencies, academia, and industry to understand their needs and requirements for weather forecasting solutions.

Who You Are:

You are a visionary, technical leader, and love to share your knowledge and experiences with the world. You enjoy working on products as well as with customers helping everyone all at once. You love weather and understand it's multi-trillion dollar impact to global economies which we at Spire aim to help.

  • Experience in developing, training, and evaluating AI weather models like as GraphCast, FourCastNet, and AIFS
  • Expertise in Python and commonly used AI/ML tools and frameworks.
  • Deep knowledge of traditional data assimilation and physics-based numerical weather prediction.
  • A master's or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science or a related field.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in office. #LI-JP1
