What is the role?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Lead to join our Wind Natural Catastrophe Solutions product team that is focused on deriving actionable insights about hurricane damage. As a key member of our product team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our Wind product, steering it from the technical proof-of-concept phase into general product release. Your expertise in software engineering, technical leadership, product mindset and strategic vision of what good engineering looks like will be essential to our success.

As a Senior Technical Lead, you will be a key member of the Wind team and will be chiefly responsible for guiding technical decisions, leading development efforts, and ensuring successful project execution. Effective communication and collaboration with product managers and other engineering teams are essential for you to excel in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an end-to-end tech vision and roadmap for the product, understanding dependencies and outcomes and ensuring close alignment with the product manager
  • Communicate technical needs and expertise required for successful product development
  • Ability to work closely with geospatial technical specialists, understand how their work fits into the big picture without needing to have expert understanding of ‘how’ their components work
  • Proactively address risks, challenges, and needs, fostering a collaborative environment
  • Actively participate in planning and objective setting for each quarter
  • Foster active communication and collaboration with other engineering team & technical leads
  • Lead the execution of product development initiatives, ensuring good delivery practices, high-quality and safe code, and early de-risking of product requirements
  • Architect for operations, security, and scalability, leveraging modern software engineering practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including product manager, SAR and remote sensing experts, machine learning engineers and other software engineers) to design, develop, test, and maintain the product
  • Share best practices, guide code reviews, and promote a culture of continuous learning to ensure the team constantly improves their development habits
  • Identify strategies to accelerate the timeline of bringing R&D elements to production

Requirements

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Proven experience as a Technical Lead or Senior Software Engineer working with a team
  • Strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices, including cloud architectures, cloud native applications, DevOps, continuous delivery, test automation and security, (AWS preferred)
  • Strong Python experience
  • Docker experience 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and processes
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • You can take challenging, abstract problems and break them down into solvable tasks

In addition to the above, it would be beneficial if you had the below attributes and skills:

  • Experience working alongside people from diverse technical backgrounds
  • Knowledge of SAR and/or remote sensing is a plus
  • Expertise in Python and geospatial programming
  • History of working with containers and kubernetes

  • Base salary range for this position in Finland is 7500 - 9500 EUR per month (gross) contingent on your experience level, and will be negotiated individually
