Job description

The Lead AIT Engineer will oversee the assembly, integration, and testing activities for aerospace projects, ensuring that all systems and components meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of AIT engineers and technicians. Assign tasks, provide guidance, and ensure team members are effectively supporting mission objectives.
  • Assembly and Integration: Oversee the assembly and integration of spacecraft and satellite systems, including mechanical, electrical, and software components. Ensure that all systems are assembled and integrated according to specifications and requirements.
  • Testing and Validation: Plan and execute comprehensive testing and validation procedures for spacecraft and satellite systems. Ensure that all systems are rigorously tested to meet performance, reliability, and safety standards.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify and troubleshoot issues during assembly, integration, and testing phases. Implement corrective actions and work with cross-functional teams to resolve complex problems.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of assembly, integration, and testing processes. Ensure that all activities are documented according to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with design engineers, systems engineers, and project managers to ensure successful integration and testing of systems. Facilitate communication between teams to ensure alignment and address any integration challenges.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in AIT processes and procedures. Identify opportunities for enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving overall performance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in assembly, integration, and testing of spacecraft or satellite systems, with a proven track record of leading AIT activities.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of AIT processes, including mechanical assembly, electrical integration, and system testing. Proficiency with AIT tools and software.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with experience in guiding and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical information clearly.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in AIT roles, with significant experience in high-precision or mission-critical space systems.
  • Advanced Skills: Expertise in advanced AIT techniques, including experience with complex spacecraft or satellite systems and high-stakes missions.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in systems engineering or AIT processes (e.g., Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), AIT certification).
  • Industry Experience: Extensive experience in aerospace or space technology sectors, particularly with large-scale or high-complexity space missions.
  • Innovation: Proven track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement in AIT processes and systems.

  • This position may include access to technology and/or software source code that is subject to U.S. export controls. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158,  or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
