ABOUT US

The European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) provides safe and secure European satellite navigation services, advances the commercialization of Galileo, the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), and Copernicus data and services, engages in secure SATCOM (GOVSATCOM & IRIS2), and operates the Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) Front Desk. Through these projects, EUSPA enhances European autonomy in space technologies, fosters innovation and creativity, supports European transport net and agriculture, all while contributing to the economic growth and health of the European Union.

At the Engineering Department we ensure the Agency’s technical leadership on all matters related to system infrastructure, service, and security engineering, and we act as the Engineering Centre of Competence. The Department is responsible for ensuring the robustness and security of the systems in operations, for developing the infrastructure of the EUSPA service facilities, for providing the operations and service requirements to new system developments, and for engineering new services and their receivers that ensure the wide usage of EU Space data.

The current vacancy is based in the Agency’s headquarters in the heart of Europe – Prague – a location with excellent connection to numerous major European cities. The capital of the Czech Republic, on the banks of the Vltava River, is famous for its cultural life, renowned musical life, historic buildings, magical bridges, and recognized museums and monuments.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO

We are looking to recruit a Service Engineer who will contribute to the evolution of the current and new EU space services, both civil and governmental. The job holder will have the following non-exhaustive list of tasks and responsibilities:

  • Analyse user needs collected from User Consultation Platform, studies and surveys with stakeholders and translate them into mission and service requirements;

  • Maintain the traceability and justification of the mission, service and security baselines;

  • Prepare service definition activities (including technical assessments, feasibility analyses and related studies and demonstrations) in close coordination with other teams, notably EGNOS, Galileo and Market Downstream and Innovation departments;

  • Maintain and update the Statement of Compliance to the mission, service and security requirements;

  • Assess the impact of requests for deviation and waivers issued by infrastructure and operations into the service baseline, identify suitable mitigation actions and prepare the relevant requests for deviation or waiver to the mission and service baseline;

  • Draft Service Definition Documents (SDD) and Interface Control Documents (ICD) outlining the EU space service commitments and interfaces towards users;

  • Coordinate and supervise the validation activities (collection of credits from system qualification, operational validation and external stakeholders, execution of dedicated validation campaigns, etc);

  • Contribute to the evaluation of the Service Performance, and in particular assess whether the delivered service meets the SDD performance expectations;

  • Develop the EU space services standardisation within the different user communities and standardisation fora (ICAO, IMO, EUROCAE, RTCA, IEC, NMEA*);

  • Participate and contribute to the Service/System/Projects Reviews and Boards as appropriate;

  • Coordinate the work of contractors supporting the above activities;

  • Contribute to internal reporting, and reporting to stakeholders on the status and progress of the activities and any other tasks of the Department, as necessary;

  • Liaise with other departments, notably in the area of Administration and Operations, to ensure the execution of related corporate tasks, such as planning, reporting, auditing, administration, financial & budget management, risk management.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience in specification, design or validation of complex systems, preferably in the space domain;

  • Experience in operational service (e.g. under a KPI scheme);

  • Previous experience in the EU Space programmes will be considered an asset;

  • Experience in procurement and management of complex service contracts and/or subcontractor activities;

  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English;

  • Effective communication skills;

  • Sense of responsibility, accountability and attention to detail;

  • Ability to deliver accurate work under pressure and tight deadlines, organise workload and prioritise tasks;

  • Transversal collaboration and working in teams.
