Position Overview: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SOX Lead to join our finance team. The SOX Lead will play a key role in driving our SOX compliance program with a high level of visibility across the organization.  Initially, this position will manage the ongoing efforts of our external advisors and internal business process owners following our initial SOX 404 implementation in 2023, maximizing the effectiveness and efficiency of the program as the business continues to mature. Key responsibilities will include coordinating all SOX activities such as maintaining an accurate risk control matrix, collaborating with control owners to execute control walk-throughs and testing, evaluating control exceptions, ensuring deficiencies are sufficiently remediated in a timely manner, and reporting results with senior management and the audit committee.  This individual will also contribute to identification of audit risks, process improvement (including automation and standardization), and overall establishing a strong controls environment in a rapidly-scaling environment.      

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the SOX 404 program with our external SOX advisors from planning through scheduling, preparing, execution, tracking and reporting.

  • Manage external SOX advisors to ensure objectives are met in a timely manner and within expected budget. 

  • Rationalize and the risk control matrix with business process and system owners including updates to business process documentation, implementation/enhancements for new or existing controls, policies, and procedures.

  • Support walkthroughs with business process owners and external advisors to ensure accuracy and completeness of design.  

  • Coordinate SOX testing with external advisors and internal team members to ensure sufficiency of documentation for testing of controls over critical processes and accounts. 

  • Resolve and remediate internal control issues and deficiencies in a timely manner through collaboration with process and control owners, including review of supporting evidence and retesting to ensure adequacy. 

  • Effectively report SOX program activities periodically to senior management and the audit committee to provide updates on program status, schedule, budget and results.  

  • Identify audit risks and implement new or enhanced processes resulting from changes in the business including opportunities for improvement, standardization or automation.

  • Liaise with the external auditors and proactively coordinate the SOX activities to minimize efforts for all stakeholders involved.

  • Participate in special projects/initiatives and other functions as needed such as major system or process implementations, enterprise risk management, and government contract compliance.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience including Big 4 or public company audit/SOX experience

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance (CPA preferred but not required)

  • Strong knowledge of auditing standards and SOX compliance a must (knowledge of SEC filing and federal government contracting a plus).   

  • Strong process, systems and controls understanding.

  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills 

  • Strong project management skills: highly detail oriented with ability to prioritize and multi-task simultaneously

  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills 

  • Ability to operate independently and as part of a larger functional team
