About the Team: 

The Construction Superintendent, reporting to the Senior Construction Infrastructure Manager, will be responsible for reinforcing safety and quality assurance policies among company employees and subcontractors. This role involves overseeing all field operations and ensuring that subcontractors and their sub-tiers are compliant with authorities having jurisdiction, contract documents, and the project schedule.

About the Role:

The Construction Superintendent will work under the direction of the Senior Construction Infrastructure Manager, to reinforce safety and quality assurance policies, among company employees and Subcontractors. The Construction Superintendent will oversee all field operations and will ensure that General Subcontractors’ and their sub-tiers’ are working in compliance with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, Contract Documents, and the Project(s) schedule.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure safety is a priority in job planning and execution. Hold staff members and subcontractors accountable for adhering to project safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes completing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and reviewing safety submittals before subcontractors begin work. Regularly supervise subcontractor tasks to ensure compliance.
  • Manage quality assurance for the project, ensuring both company and subcontractor work meets standards. Escalate recurring quality issues with subcontractors or vendors to upper management.
  • Oversee day-to-day field operations.
  • Manage the work plans of general subcontractors and adjust them as needed to meet changing project requirements. This includes creating and maintaining material handling and site utilization plans.
  • Review subcontractor reports, address any reported issues, and correct any safety violations or deficiencies.
  • Develop and maintain an overall project schedule and personnel tracker, detailing all subcontractors on site.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure they align with the predetermined schedule, and conduct regular status meetings with subcontractor superintendents and/or foremen.
  • Identify potential constructability issues that could lead to disputes, claims, or schedule delays.
  • Ensure strict adherence to budgetary guidelines.
  • Develop and implement forms and construction methods that promote job efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of timekeeping and costs.
  • Manage vendors and subcontractors on a daily and weekly basis. Seek assistance from construction managers for significant or unusual delivery performance issues.
  • Inspect materials received to ensure quantity and quality, and ensure receiving tickets are properly documented and submitted to the assigned construction manager.
  • Participate in Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings.
  • Enforce Long Beach City special requirements related to the project.
  • Develop and execute a daily form that tracks subcontractor performance.

About You:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction or a related field, including leadership and management experience. Must demonstrate experience in assisting or supervising construction projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Excel, Project, Word, SharePoint), Adobe Suite, and report writing applications.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, contract administration, equipment, manpower, facilities operations, and building systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and coordinate numerous activities and groups of people to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in P6, MS Office 365 (Excel, Project, Word, SharePoint), and Adobe Suite.
  • Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, climb ladders, and navigate work areas under construction.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Knowledge of construction plan reading.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training for construction.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to complete assigned shifts.
  • Valid California state driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
