Job description
a.i. solutions is looking to hire a motivated technical writer to maintain and manage all documentation for our space mission planning and operations software products. Our flagship software, FreeFlyer, is an industry leading orbit dynamics tool used by agencies like NASA, the US Space Force, and commercial customers worldwide to ensure the success of current and future crewed and uncrewed spaceflight missions. FreeFlyer’s user-friendly UIs, integrated development environment, and domain-specific scripting language provide its users with full control over their mission simulation and visualization.
In addition to working directly on our comprehensive technical software documentation, this position involves producing and maintaining a documentation style guide, iterating with management on intended tone, and reviewing and proofreading documentation contributions by other members of the engineering team. Our users, which span the full range from software engineers to spacecraft analysts, depend on this documentation being readable and logically organized to effectively support their various spaceflight missions using our tools.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
- Write documentation and release notes for software products
- Edit, fact-check, and proofread all of our technical content to ensure it is of the highest quality
- Work with developers to schedule and run internal product demos to inform the documentation
- Produce and maintain a documentation style guide governing conventions to be used
- Perform reviews of documentation written by technical engineering team members
- Provide writing and copyediting support for externally facing web and training content
- Advocate for technologies and industry tools to optimize the maintenance of our technical documentation
- Assist in writing UI text, writing specification documents, and establishing feature terminology
- Estimate documentation effort for feature implementation
- Ensure a unified brand voice and tone in all written and reviewed material
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2+ years of experience in writing, copyediting, technical documentation or equivalent experience
- U.S. citizenship
Desired Experience:
- Data and documentation management using Git
- Iterative software development life cycles (Modified Waterfall, Agile)
- Documentation tools and technologies (Help & Manual, MadCap Flare, Markdown)
- Basic understanding of programming languages (C++, C#, Python)
- Clear and communicable passion for space
