We’re on the hunt for a Senior Technologist – Mechanical on our Satellite systems team at our Montreal office.

Role: 

This position is a senior position within the Mechanical Production group. Provide a technical interface between the Production and Engineering groups. Define materials and processes that will be used in the assembly of equipment. Establish methods related to production and support the Manufacturing group during the assembly phase. Suggest new methods or tools required to improve production. This position requires a high degree of autonomy.

 

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Collaborate with the Engineering group during the design phase and influence the choice of assembly methods or materials.  
  • Review production drawings and ensure feasibility.
  • Suggest assembly methods for components and mechanical assemblies of high or very high complexity.
  • Write part routings according to approved processes in effect for assemblies/parts for which he/she is responsible.
  • Transfer work orders and follow up on production.
  • Follow the production schedule by identifying deviations and suggesting contingency plans.
  • Assist assemblers by performing detailed reviews during production (production milestones, final verification).
  • Guide technologists at the same or lower level towards achieving results (maintaining standards and processes).
  • Suggest and integrate rework procedures caused by non-conformance (NCR, DIN, SNAG, DR, TNR, ECN) to work orders and follow up as per established provisions.
  • Ensure that work is performed in accordance with internal procedures and in compliance with our Occupational Health and Safety rules.
  • May prepare specifications for the mechanical production group.
  • May participate in the development of new processes or tooling.
  • Assist in maintaining the efficiency of the production labs and suggest improvements.
  • Performs other related duties.

 

Minimum qualifications required:

  • College diploma in mechanical engineering technology or equivalent.
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of production techniques and mechanical assembly processes.
  • Extremely advanced knowledge of mechanical assembly tools.
  • Perfect knowledge of Microsoft software and an ERP database.
  • Fluency in spoken and written French. Knowledge of English is an asset.

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
