Job description

As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing unique spacecraft structures, systems, and components, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that produces high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs.

Responsibilities

Create conceptual designs in CAD based on high level requirements
Refine designs based on input from analysts, manufacturing, and engineering
Detail work including joints, fasteners, seals, interfaces, structural elements, features for tooling and fixturing, and lightweighting
Manage mass properties in CAD
Produce engineering drawings that effectively convey specifications for manufacturing
Collaborate with manufacturing group to produce designs

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or related field
6+ years of demonstrated design experience
4+ years CAD experience
Ability to work with and manage large assemblies
Demonstrated packaging and configuration management experience on complex hardware products
Working knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
Familiarity with properties of common materials, both metallic and composite
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

Masters' degree in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field
9+ years' of demonstrated design experience
6+ years' working on spacecraft structures design (primary or secondary)
Experience with NX/Teamcenter
Demonstrated hands-on experience with machining, fabrication, or composite manufacturing experience
Experience in a startup or agile development environment

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
