Job description

As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing unique spacecraft structures, systems, and components, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that produces high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs.

Responsibilities

  • Create conceptual designs in CAD based on high level requirements
  • Refine designs based on input from analysts, manufacturing, and engineering
  • Detail work including joints, fasteners, seals, interfaces, structural elements, features for tooling and fixturing, and lightweighting
  • Manage mass properties in CAD
  • Produce engineering drawings that effectively convey specifications for manufacturing
  • Collaborate with manufacturing group to produce designs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or related field
  • 6+ years of demonstrated design experience
  • 4+ years CAD experience
  • Ability to work with and manage large assemblies
  • Demonstrated packaging and configuration management experience on complex hardware products
  • Working knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with properties of common materials, both metallic and composite
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Masters' degree in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field
  • 9+ years' of demonstrated design experience
  • 6+ years' working on spacecraft structures design (primary or secondary)  
  • Experience with NX/Teamcenter
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with machining, fabrication, or composite manufacturing experience
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
