Description

System Engineer in the Proba-3 Unit, Projects Office, Systems Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

The Proba-3 Unit is responsible for the project management and system engineering for the Proba-3 project.

The Proba-3 project has entered phase D, with AIV/AIT of the space and ground segments, to be followed by the launch campaign and in-orbit commissioning.

The Unit also provides technical support to programme directorates as required in the area of small satellites and in-orbit demonstration missions.

Duties

Reporting to the Head of Unit, in the technical fields described above, your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

 

  • managing activities and participating in the System team for the Proba-3 project, including coordination of expert support from the engineering departments in your area of responsibility;
  • providing technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in system engineering for in-orbit demonstration and small satellites throughout all project phases;
  • participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluations of procurement proposals;
  • initiating and managing R&D activities covering long- and short-term needs in respect of small satellites for in-orbit demonstration;
  • monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining state-of-the-art expertise;
  • contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.

 

Your first assignment upon take-up of duty will relate to Proba-3.

Your duties may also include providing support to other activities in your area of competence.

Education

A master’s degree in aerospace engineering or a major scientific discipline is required for this post.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.

 

During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests.
