You will set clear expectations and provide feedback to coach your team to provide outstanding program support across a variety of space missions.  You will help your team to maintain a business focus, honoring our commitments to our customers, while also being adaptable and resilient in responding to ambiguity, complexity, and setbacks. You will work collaboratively with the Systems Engineering management team to foster organizational health through continuous improvement initiatives and departmental activities which foster learning and belonging.  These responsibilities supplement your contributions (of up to 50%) to one or more of Maxar Space Systems programs as a Systems Engineer with a software specialization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, train, and support a team of system engineers responsible for the design, analysis, and verification of spacecraft systems, with a primary focus on software
  • Work effectively to supervise systems engineers, fielding questions on human resource issues, time off, benefits, leave and other human resource questions for a functional organization using matrix management to assign engineers to programs
  • Provide technical oversight and SE competency oversight to ensure the expected quality, rigor, and discipline of systems engineering is maintained for our software systems engineering cohort
  • Provide specific and actionable feedback during 1:1s and performance reviews
  • Actively manage personnel assignments, adapting fluidly to changing constraints and guiding career development for growth opportunities
  • Model interpersonal behaviors that promote psychological safety and belonging within the organization
  • Look across projects to ensure process consistency where possible and adherence to system engineering standards
  • Develop system engineering approaches that balance cost, technical and schedule risk at all stages of development from mission conception through launch and operations
  • Participate in the recruiting, interviewing and hiring for the Cohort
  • Participate in the collaborative development of initiatives that drive employee motivation, retention, and growth
  • Contribute software Systems Engineering expertise on a program as a technical contributor for at least 50% of the time

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or STEM field. Four years of additional experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 10 years of related experience, including at least 3 years in the space/aerospace industry
  • Experience with milestone reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR) and the verification/validation phase of a program
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a technical systems engineering team with complex software
  • Software engineering expertise, including one or more programming languages
  • Familiarity with applicable aerospace industry standards and best practices (Mil, NASA, ESA, AIAA, IEEE, etc.)
  • Experience functioning as a Product Owner on an agile development team
  • Technical depth in one or more satellite/aviation subsystem (e.g., Power, Guidance Navigation and Control, Propulsion, Fault Detection, Command and Telemetry)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Aerospace, Engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in performing requirement development and decomposition as well as verification planning, definition, and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and elevate the quality of systems engineering within a program or larger team through the use of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
