Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work β and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman needs Radiation Effects & Survivability (RES) engineers to team up and help lead the RES design, development, and analysis of complex electronic products for space systems.
At Northrop Grumman Space Systems RES engineering is the impact of the radiation environment upon the operational capability of components, assemblies, equipment, subsystems, systems, and other space platforms.Β RES engineers perform radiation effects analysis, shielding analysis, survivability analysis, radiation analysis reporting, simulation of electronic components relative to space radiation effects; electronic protection; hazards of radiation to electronics, materials, and personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Radiation Analysis for satellite electronic systems
- Present at design reviews to internal and external customers regarding Radiation issues
- Testing radiation capability of electronic parts & components (e.g. low & prompt dose rates exposure, gamma irradiation, energetic electrons & protons, neutrons, and heavy ions bombardment)
- Radiation predictions using SPENVIS, CREME96, OMERE, FastRad, Shieldose2, and other radiation analysis tools
- Radiation effects on materials and degradation
- Interface with multiple disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, EMI/EMC/ESD, contamination, procurement, subcontractors, manufacturing, and testing
- Prepare and present technical reports for internal and external customers
- Determine and/or derive radiation requirements and compliance in program meetings and design reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.)
- Analyze Single Event Effects and calculate rates for Burnouts, Latchups, Ruptures, Upsets and Transients in electronic circuits
- Propose and validate circuit design mitigations to reduce or eliminate risk of Single Event Effects failure
- Calculate Radiation Design Margins (RDM) analysis
- Displacement Damage Dose impact on optoelectronics
- Deep Charging (Internal Electron Flux) applied to spacecraft component boxes and external harnesses
- Spacecraft radiation modeling & radiation shielding evaluation
This position can be filled remotely from Melbourne, FL

- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics or closely related technical discipline with 14 years of experience.
- Extensive Radiation Effects & Survivability experience
- Proficient with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Teams (MS 365)
- Must have US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics or closely related technical discipline is preferred.
- Knowledge of physics associated with radiation effects in semiconductor devices
- Experience with radiation models & tools like AE8/AP8, IRENE, CRΓME96, OMERE, SPENVIS, etc.
- Experience reviewing technical work products of peers.
- Experience contributing to development and mentoring of junior engineers.
- Leadership in process improvement or knowledge transfer (i.e. publication) activities.
- Experience with defense and aerospace industry practices, and programmatic skills supporting BOE, RFP, ROM, CAM, WBS, Risk assessments.
