We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Collection Optimization Specialist - Level 1 to join our dynamic team. This entry-level position is ideal for early-career professionals passionate about remote-sensing, satellites, or geographic information systems (GIS). The role involves following defined workflows to task satellites on behalf of our customers, ensuring that their data needs are met with precision and efficiency. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will be dealing with highly technical concepts and need to communicate them clearly and effectively. This role is required onsite in Santa Barbara CA or Arlington VA.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow established workflows to task satellites based on customer requirements.
  • Utilize GIS skills to enhance tasking accuracy and efficiency.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to customers and team members.
  • Serve as a critical interface between the data production systems and our customers.
  • Analyze system efficiency and propose improvements.
  • Produce detailed reports and studies related to satellite operations and tasking.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • All other duties as assigned.


What You Will Learn:

As a member of the Collection Optimization team, you will have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and experience in several exciting areas, including:

  • Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology and its applications.
  • Constellation scheduling and satellite operations.
  • Advanced GIS techniques and their application in satellite tasking.
  • Customer service skills tailored to technical and scientific contexts.
  • Analytical skills for assessing system efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Reporting and documentation skills for technical processes and customer communications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Geography, or other technical field.
  • Familiarity with scripting/automating workflows with Python or other programming language.
  • Knowledge about GIS concepts and familiarity with QGIS or other GIS software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of satellite operations and tasking.
  • Customer service experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
