EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for Engineer III – Data Networks

in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position is located in our Germantown, MD office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer and manage large scale enterprise networks with a focus on data management operations; develop the overall plans for, and implement, network services to ensure reliable and secure data pipelining and the movement of network data through the company’s network managers to repository databases.
  • Apply expertise of network management systems, protocols, models and data science concepts to plan and execute the administration and management of data network systems that optimize the availability of specific network generated data to key operational units of the organization to include Machine Learning Operations (MLOps).
  • Act as a principal liaison and point-of-contact between internal teams and external stakeholders that consume network generated data and the company’s engineering teams that administer and configure the networks to include: establishing requirements and implementing the data collection systems and pipelines required to support internal Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) teams; establishing requirements and proposing configuration solutions to meet the operational needs of external companies that employ the organization’s network services.
  • Employ the Python programming language to develop and implement network tools and solutions.
  • Be responsible for the continuous process improvements of network management systems in order to reduce the costs of existing tools, increase network visibility to relevant stakeholders, and to adapt emerging industry practices (e.g. Cloud and DevOps) within the company’s standard operating procedures; establish the design requirements for specific network tools, databases and data infrastructure.
  • Research new methods and processes for integrating and managing next-generation Network Management Systems with existing data models and network infrastructure; develop and implement training materials and programs to facilitate adoption.
  • Research and implement strategies and processes for data security within the network; determine end users’ security requirements and develop appropriate security solutions including the use of data packet tracers and implementing appropriate protocols on managed network infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage data generated through network operations to enhance the company’s Artificial Intelligence and machine Learning capabilities and to expand available service offerings within these fields, draft and present these findings.
  • Design and implement training on data network processes and tools to be shared with relevant internal teams.

Basic Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Telecommunications and six months of experience in the position, or in a related Network and Computer Systems Administration, or Network Engineering occupation. 
  • As an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Telecommunications and 5 years of experience in the position, or in a related Network and Computer Systems Administration, or Network Engineering occupation will be acceptable.

Special Requirements: 

  • Six months of experience with the industry standard protocols and models: TCP/IP; SNMPv3; NetFlow.
  • Six months of experience employing Network Management and Monitoring tools SL1 and Zabbix.
  • Six months of experience developing network automation solutions employing Python.

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
