Job description
Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.
Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.
Ursa Major is currently seeking talented individuals for our Summer 2025 SRM Systems Engineer Internship. As an intern on a small, fast-moving team, you will be challenged with supporting the dynamic environment of propulsion design, development, manufacturing, test, and production. You will receive hands-on experience while helping solve difficult engineering problems. We thrive on giving ownership and authority, so you can expect to make decisions and make a difference!
Responsibilities:
- Help verify our propulsion systems are designed and perform as necessary to meet our customers’ needs
- Support leads and subsystem teams in defining, validating and maintaining requirements
- Create and manage system engineering tools and processes
- Review test and analysis plans and reports to assist with confirmation that requirements are met
- Support reliability, failure modes and risk assessments
Required Qualifications:
- Background in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or systems engineering
- Experience applying aerospace systems engineering processes – design reviews, requirements development, requirements validation and verification, failure and risk assessments
- Demonstrated organization skills
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity in all its forms as well as contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships
- Demonstrated teamwork and ability to communicate effectively in a group setting
- Drive to continuously improve technical and team skills
Preferred Experience:
- Solid rocket motor/liquid rocket engine/propulsion system/or fluid system design, analysis, development, or test
- Familiarity with requirement management tools such as DOORS, Jama or Cameo.
