EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for SMTS – Hardware (Firmware Design)

in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position is located in our Germantown, MD office.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform a lead role in the planning, design, testing and implementation of the embedded systems and firmware for use in the hardware components employed in satellite broadband network systems (gateways, terminals, modems, ground stations, etc.).
• Plan and execute the design and testing of embedded software systems on the system-on-a-chip architecture and other hardware necessary for satellite and broadband network operations applying understanding of standard protocols and network architecture, as well as common programming languages and platforms (C, C++, Python).
• Lead the collaboration with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and QA engineers, to define firmware requirements and specifications.
• Plan and execute the requirements analysis necessary to establish functional requirements for the tasked project features, and to make plans & recommendations regarding the interface, capability and performance benchmarks for the firmware under development. 
• Apply knowledge of wireless (MAC, PHY and RF) development methods to plan the development tasks and priorities for assigned embedded software projects.
• Based on the functionality established during requirements analysis, plan and implement the test plan for the firmware modules and ensure that the work of team members adheres to the testing plan and to the company’s quality requirements.
• Plan and implement solutions for simulating network traffic through the generation of customized high-speed data packets in order to test the firmware of network components under development.
• Conduct assessments of proposed modem product features and address software bugs associated with the required API support.
• Evaluate overall testing requirements and develop the necessary test scripts and testing tools employing Python or Bash Scripting.
• Recommend new design processes or techniques to the organization’s management to improve the overall quality of firmware development, testing, and maintenance.  
• Create project schedules for the design, testing, and verification processes, and distribute task assignments within the project team.

Basic Requirements: 

• Master’s degree in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering field and 3 years experience in the job offered or in an electrical engineering, software engineering or software development position. 
• As an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering field and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in an electrical engineering, software engineering, or software development position will be acceptable.

Special Requirements: 

• 2 years of domain experience in the satellite or broadband network industry in an applications development or electrical components engineering capacity.
• 2 years of experience employing Python or Bash scripting.
• 2 years of experience supporting the development of firmware for telecommunication hardware component’s or products.

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
