About The Position

Under administrative direction, provides assistance in developing, maintaining, and analyzing information and information systems for decisions based on key findings of research initiatives. This function involves considerable interaction and communication with management of units throughout the university, external agencies, and public and private sector representatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the development of data for special management, policy studies and/or research activities. 
  • Analyzes developments in the industry; remains current regarding significant developments and/or initiatives occurring 
  • Designs, coordinates, and conducts research activities and statistical studies 
  • Develops and maintains databases used to generate information for management decision making and evaluation of programs. 
  • Participates on project teams in special studies resulting in recommending solutions or alternatives. 
  • Helps train staff in the use of departmental data processing tools. Creates and maintains databases utilizing various computer programming languages or user-oriented software, such as SPSS or SAS. 
  • Utilize micro-computer programs, such as Excel, Access, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint. 
  • Utilizes statistical methods to analyze management problems and/or policy implications; assists evaluators in the development of measurement tools. 
  • Performs independent studies, internet and library searches on relevant subjects. 
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates an effort to develop industrial sponsors and partnerships to support the research mission of the Institute. 
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates an effort to develop large proposals to the federal government 
  • Develops a rapport and credibility with appropriate parties to best facilitate engaging them in substantive research partnerships within the industry. 
  • Understands and promotes the research capabilities and interests of the Institute in terms of industry needs and national priorities.
  • Establishes a resource network in the community, the nation, and the international arena to identify and cultivate partners. 
  • Makes recommendations to management, public/private sector representatives, and external constituencies. 
  • May assist university departments by providing information for operational and strategic plans, or accreditation reviews. 
  • Establishes and maintains office-based technology systems to aid in the effective administration of projects and activities. 
  • May perform or assist in the delivery of presentations, write articles and technical reports. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field AND three years of experience in research, information analysis or program evaluation; OR, Master's degree in a related field AND one year of experience in research, information analysis or program evaluation; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of research design, methodologies, and statistics. 
  • Knowledge of state and federal government agencies related to research funding process and regulations. 
  • Knowledge of academic research environment. 
  • Knowledge of grant writing and grant application procedures. 
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis methods, techniques, procedures. Knowledge of statistical and financial tools. 
  • Skill in effective communication, both written and verbal. Skill in data processing systems and applications. 
  • Skill in preparing and summarizing data for management reports and policy decisions. Skill in facilitating research partnerships. 
  • Ability to understand broad issues. 
  • Ability to apply advanced knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of internet based research.
