About the Team:  

The Relativity Space NDE Engineering Team is dedicated to the integrity of our product while tackling the challenges of our traditional and non-traditional manufacturing methods. We are tasked with developing and executing inspection of a huge variety of materials and components using cutting-edge industry technology and vetting, developing and deploying automation, machine learning and Statistical Process Control solutions to achieve continuous improvement in efficiency and execution. From designing novel in-house systems and processes that adhere to industry standards, to executing challenging technical inspection operations, our team maintains a steadfast commitment to integrity, efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.

About the Role: 

Your core responsibilities will be:

  • Work closely with UT Level 2 Specialists, UT Level 2 Inspectors and NDE Engineers to develop and execute feasibility studies, POD’s, and qualification plans.
  • Support 2nd shift inspection of production parts and assemblies with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
  • Act as primary point-of-contact for PAUT technique development efforts and continuous improvement campaigns.
  • Perform volumetric NDE inspections using established, novel and advanced Phased Array Ultrasonic (PAUT) & Total Focusing Method/Full Matrix Capture (TFM/FMC) techniques.
  • Evaluation of acquired PAUT/TFM/FMC data for quality in accordance with specific acceptance criteria.
  • Detailed and comprehensive documentation/reporting of inspection results.
  • Engage in proactive mentorship and provide training and oversight for less experienced Inspectors.
  • Interface with outside stakeholders regarding inspection results and future possibilities.
  • Develop and publish part-specific NDE techniques for a variety of complex parts.
  • Plan and program automated UT inspections.
  • Work with vendors to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
  • In depth comprehension and effective application of relevant NDE inspection plans, procedures, and techniques.

About You:  

  • Level 3 certification in UT/PAUT per NAS 410, SNT-TC-1A or equivalent and documentation of same. (be prepared to provide these records prior to interview).
  • Extensive (5+ years) and verifiable experience as a method Level 3 in an aerospace setting or equivalent highly regulated industry.
  • Experience contributing to system design and qualification efforts for aerospace customers (i.e. Boeing, Nasa, DoD, Space Force, etc…).
  • Current ASNT UT Level 3 certification.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (NASA, AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM, etc.).
  • Experience Auditing 3rd Party NDE Vendors.
  • Experience inspecting various materials and geometries.
  • Extensive (5+ years) and verifiable experience performing PAUT in a production setting.
  • Extensive and verifiable experience analyzing inspection data to specific acceptance criteria.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering work instructions and drawings.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

Nice to haves but not required:  

  • BS or MS in a STEM field.
  • Experience with inspection of additively manufactured materials, FSW’s, and OTW’s
  • NDE Level II Certification in Radiography (RT/DR/CR/CT), dye penetrant (PT), visual inspection (VT,CWI), Eddy Current (ET, ECA)
  • Experience with CAD
  • Experience with QA/QC and/or Lean Manufacturing concepts and applications.
