Job description

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit, and which carries cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented Mission and Flight Dynamics Engineer to help us in our mission by taking the lead of the Mission Analysis studies and Flight Dynamics activities of our LEO missions.
You will be successful in this role if you are able to help us:
  • Perform all mission analysis studies for our LEO spacecraft, from separation from launcher to de-orbit burn.
  • Drive the Space Debris Mitigation activities
  • Design and implement the flight dynamics tool for use during the flight operations.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Mission and Flight Dynamics Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
  • Defining, optimising and simulating the Nyx Earth trajectories and attitude timeline
  • Owning of the Delta-V Budget
  • Acting as the end-to-end responsible of the ESA Space Debris Mitigation requirements and ensure their closure, through analyses such as orbit propagation, orbital decay, probability of collisions with debris, conjunctions, as well as Debris Avoidance and Design for Removal implementation
  • Designing a flight dynamics simulator for use in the flight operations phases, including trajectory prediction, orbital maneuver computation and orbital event prediction
  • Carrying out impact or trades studies with respect to system architecture or subsystem design evolution / alternatives
  • Communicating and providing recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data
  • Writing technical documentation and participate to reviews of designed systems

What we would love to see from you

In the role of Mission and Flight Dynamics Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

  • A first good experience (2 to 5 years) working in mission analysis and / or flight dynamics for low earth orbit operations
  • Good knowledge in programming (Python and C++ are an asset)
  • Full professional proficiency in English. Elementary proficiency in German and French is an asset
Regarding your skills and behaviours, we expect:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
