Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Engineer/Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the Responsibilities of the position and meet many of the Knowledge/Experience requirements.  You bring your talent and experience and will have the opportunity learn from on-the-job training. Responsibilities:

  • Develop Product Safety artifacts for new and existing designs.  An applicant must have experience with and be able to contribute to process improvement for one or more safety analyses from either or both of the major safety areas below:
    1. System Safety Analysis (SSA)
  • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
  • Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Risk identification, prioritization, and management
    1. Flight Safety Analysis (FSA)
  • Trajectory Analysis
  • Debris Analysis
  • Probability of Failure Analysis
  • Population Exposure Analysis
  • Flight Hazard Area Analysis
  • Provide support and risk advice to production, maintenance, technical, project or program personnel
  • Integrate your deliverable work and the work of your peers into the process flow and design development of the Program

 

What you bring

Required Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics, or Physics from an accredited university
  • 3-5+  years of relevant experience in aerospace or system safety field
  • Must have experience and capability to work independently with a fault tree modeling software to model complex systems including mechanical, electrical, and software integrated systems
  • Must be able to Explain difficult or sensitive information internally and to non-system safety engineers; works to build consensus amongst team members for processes
  • Must have experience with one or more system safety analyses techniques such as safety assessments, hazard development, Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering development lifecycles
  • Experience developing and validating requirements
  • Knowledge of software development practices and design assurance methods such as DO-178 or ARP4754 preferred
  • Knowledge of electronic hardware design assurance methods such as DO-254 preferred
  • Knowledge of FAA commercial space regulations preferred, CFR §400.
  • Experience with the system safety methods of ARP4761 or MIL-STD-882, with emphasis on hazard mitigation processes
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, to include schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and written communication skills
  • Team player with excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Works independently, receives minimal guidance; may lead projects or may have accountability for on-going activities.
  • Range Safety or Flight Safety analysis

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $85,900.00–$131,050.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
