Head of Embedded Software Engineering [F/M]

EXOTRAIL is a fast growing French space startup. We are looking for a Head of Embedded Software Engineering to manage our embedded software and electronics team.

Objective

The Head of Embedded Software Engineering is the manager of the embedded software and electronics team working on the spacevan activity of Exotrail. Its role is to guide the team to achieve beyond expectations the goals required for our projects.

He is working with the VP of in-orbit services and the other managers of the spacevan team. He has hierarchical responsibility of a team of 5 to 10 people.

Missions

• Team Management: Manage junior and senior embedded software engineers in their day-to day activities, trainings, career paths and mandatory meetings; perform regular one to-one meetings with the team members and report any noticeable event from the management and from the team members
• Responsible for hirings and resources: size its team according to the ongoing and future projects; recruit with our Talent Acquisition Manager, onboard and offboard engineers
• Interface with project managers and product managers to define the required team organization and sizing; assist them in preparing budgets
• Quality culture awareness: develop and educate the technical team to a framework to learn basics of quality in software development and/or electronics design and tests; and define the necessary templates to be used to fit this framework
• Excellence mindset: develop a mindset to perform beyond its objectives and to integrate the required quality and performance; this requires to structure the work of the team, yet to tailor activities so that everyone is fully in-line with the objectives of the team, the product and the company
• Documentation and Reporting: Generate comprehensive overview of the activities of the team.
• Identify a roadmap to develop the activities of the team, with the inputs of the product and projects roadmaps
• Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering teams, project managers, and stakeholders to align technical efforts with project goals and timelines

• Compliance and Standards: Ensure all engineering activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality assurance protocols

Localization

This position is opened in both our Toulouse (South of France) and Massy (15 km from Paris city center) offices.

Scope

In-orbit services avionics team of 5-10 persons.

Required experience 💁‍♀️

The Head of Software Embedded Engineering is a technical manager:

• Significant experience in electronics and embedded software
• Management experience to guide a team of 5 to 10 people
• Proactive and organized to follow several persons working on different projects
• You know how to organize a team and make them perform beyond their expectations 
• You know how to communicate, both with good writing and speaking skills
