Senior AI Weather Scientist

What You'll Do:

Spire's next-generation AI weather modeling is a big deal. A REALLY big deal. As the Senior AI Weather Scientist on this team, you'll lead a group (3-5) of other meteorologists and AI experts helping to bring our AI forecast product portfolio into focus and rolled out to our customers. These products generate hundreds of hyper-accurate forecasts at once and can frame unique probability distributions. You will play a pivotal role in advancing our research and development efforts by developing purely data-driven weather prediction models and more. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to push the boundaries of weather prediction.

• Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of purely data-driven AI models for weather forecasting, including but not limited to medium range forecasting and sub-seasonal forecasting.
• Collaborate with meteorologists, scientists, and software engineers to integrate domain knowledge into AI algorithms and models.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, meteorology, and related fields, and evaluate their potential applications to enhance our proprietary modeling.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to the academic and scientific community.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior researchers and contribute to the professional development of the team.
• Engage with stakeholders from government agencies, academia, and industry to understand their needs and requirements for weather forecasting solutions.

You love weather and understand it's multi-trillion dollar impact to global economies which we at Spire aim to help. 

• Experience in developing, training, and evaluating AI weather models like as GraphCast, FourCastNet, and AIFS
• Expertise in Python and commonly used AI/ML tools and frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of traditional data assimilation and physics-based numerical weather prediction.
• A master's or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science or a related field.
