As the HALO Safety and Reliability Engineering Manager, you will have an immediate impact on the development of the Deep Space Gateway. You will lead a high performing team of System Safety and Reliability Engineers to ensure overall mission success while maintaining safety of the crew.

This fantastic opportunity ushers in the next generation of human space exploration for which the ideal candidates will perform the following:

  • Perform and lead engineering activities including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and developing mitigation plans
  • Develop plans and coordinate completion of system and subsystem safety analysis, providing review, guidance, and expertise of safety analysis products
  • Ensure traceability between system and subsystem functions, requirements, and safety artifacts
  • Support verification and validation of safety and reliability requirements
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers across the program and company
  • Collaborate across HALO Systems Engineers to develop best practices and find opportunities for common processes across projects
This position can be filled in our Dulles, VA or Redondo Beach location
Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, integration, verification, and validation
  • Experience with performing safety analyses on space systems including one of the following: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and mitigation plans
  • Ability to lead and coordinate safety analysis products across stakeholders and experts from varying engineering fields to produce safety and reliability products
  • Proven ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-discipline that delivers technical results within schedule and budget constraints
  • Participates in systems engineering and system safety analysis activities with minimal oversite
  • Demonstrated tendency of individual product development with little-to-no oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in one subject area (or several areas) used to design, develop, and evaluate sub-systems such as Guidance, Navigation, and Control, Command and Data Handling, Communications, Environmental Control and Life Support Systems, Electrical Power Systems, Propulsion and Fluid Systems, Software, Structures & Mechanisms, Thermal, and Fuel Cells.
  • 5+ years’ of experience in system safety and reliability not limited to FHAs/PHAs, FMEA/FMECAs, and FTAs.
  • System safety analysis/modeling and reliability & fault tolerance plan development.
  • System development/integration experience, preferably with aerospace hardware.
  • Knowledge of current systems engineering and integration tools and methodologies.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORs and Cameo
  • Experience in reliability, maintainability and operability analysis and execution
  • Experience identifying and analyzing system safety risks
  • Experience working with Subcontracts and Global Supply Chain including requirements and SOW
  • Experience working directly with the NASA JSC Safety Review Panel Phase 1-3 process

Salary Range: $183,100.00 - $274,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
