Mission of the Position

The Starlab Systems Integration Manager is responsible for delivering the completely integrated commercial Starlab System of Systems solution for NASA CLD, including the Station and all segments (Ground Systems, Mission Execution, Launch Service, Cargo/Crew Resupply Service). This position has technical accountability and oversight of the nominated Project Managers and Subject Matter Experts that are developing individual Starlab subsystems. This position reports directly to the Starlab Program Manager for all programmatic matters and to the Starlab Chief Engineer on all technical matters. The primary output of the role is a the fully integrated operational Starlab System including all segments, tailored into deliverables, as defined by the program milestones (NASA SAA and Starlab internal).


Essential Duties

  • Lead Starlab System of Systems Integration efforts to establish a consistent, safe, fit-for-purpose, certified Starlab Space Station and supporting System (on-time, on-quality, on-cost).
  • Work with the Chief Engineer to define all subsystems, products and services ensuring that a complete operational system is built and delivered.
  • Integrate all defined subsystems, products and services on time to support the Starlab business plan.
  • Work with the Starlab Engineering Manager to ensure SE&I functions and work packages and the team of Subject Matter Experts (SME) that support integration and own a delegated responsibility are in place to define and integrate their subsystem.
  • Delegate individual technical tasks respectively to dedicated nominated SMEs, system engineers, and systems architects / functional leads as they pertain to Integration.
  • Manage the nominated Starlab Project Managers to technically monitor, steer and control execution of their projects as defined through applicable statements of work and specifications (complementing the administrative management of the project managers performed by the program manager).
  • Present status of integration efforts at monthly Internal Program Reviews and Quarterly Program Management Reviews with NASA.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work with Starlab Systems Integration Manager and Starlab Engineering Manager to ensure that the overall system in delivered
  • Act as a voting member in boards defined by the program such as the Internal Program Board, Engineering Review Board, Risk Management Board.
  • Act as a member of the Starlab program senior management team to steer the overall program.
  • Support the bid and proposal activity to Win Starlab phase 2
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the program manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise/manage/direct the selection, training, development, appraisal and work assignments of assigned personnel and positions.

Competencies

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required. 
  • Master's degree or equivalent preferred. 

Experience:

  • Ten (10) to twelve (12) years’ related experience required, human space flight is a plus.
  • At least five (5) years of proven experience in a senior management level role.
