Space Forge is a fast growing advanced materials company. Our goal is to exploit the extreme temperature, microgravity and ultra-high vacuum conditions available in low earth orbit (LEO) to manufacture materials that cannot readily be grown terrestrially. Returning these materials to earth, we aim to revolutionise the semiconductor market and to make space work for humanity. To achieve this we have developed a range of technologies including the world’s first returnable and reusable satellite platform, the ForgeStar®.

We’re looking to grow our Information Operations team, and as part of that we are looking for an ambitious Infrastructure Engineer to support our service, both on ground and in orbit, to achieve our goal of transforming return from space for the benefit of humanity.

You will also play a role as we transform our DevOps team into a more platform-focused environment.

The primary roles for this job are:

  • Development of internal tools and cloud infrastructure
  • Development of tools to help improve internal processes
  • Working with software developers and software engineers to ensure that development follows established processes and works as intended

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Deploying updates and fixes
  • Liaising with internal customers to understand requirements for internal systems
  • Implementation and upkeep of CICD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery) processes and tools within Space Forge

Requirements

The Space Forge team is deliberately made from individuals who are adaptable and willing to learn new skills quickly. Therefore we are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer who is willing and able to adapt to the requirements asked of them whilst maintaining a good level of output quality. Additionally as a start-up, staff are sometimes asked to assist with duties beyond their nominal job description and we are looking for candidates who are happy to step up and try something new when needed.

Essential skills:

  • Good Linux knowledge - you should be comfortable in using a terminal
  • Demonstrable knowledge of AWS
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools - such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins, etc
  • Experience using Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code solutions
  • Experience programming in Typescript, Python, GoLang or Java
  • Experience scripting with either Bash or PowerShell

Desirable skills:

  • Experience working in environments holding certifications such as Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good understanding of Jira
  • Experience with Azure, including Entra & Intune

Salary expectation: £35,000 - £45,000 dependant upon experience.
