About the Role

Do you have the skills, expertise and passion that it takes to be a top-notch machinist? Join our team and take your career to new heights! As a Machinist IV, you'll complete the fabrication of requested material to achieve defined specifications and provide responsive emergency fabrication support. You'll apply your knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments and fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain our machines and equipment. You'll write more complex programs for engineering drawings for machined part fabrication.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience

  • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience

  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with the practical application of machining techniques

  • Advanced experience with machining tools and equipment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of layout and metal fabrication practices

  • Intermediate to advanced experience in TIG and MIG welding processes

  • Ability to maintain tooling, shop equipment and machinery

  • Maintain accountability of shop tools and measuring equipment in TCMax

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Managers, Engineers, Quality personnel, Technicians and Machinists

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps

  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity

  • Frequently requires vision abilities to include close, distance, depth perception, and telling the difference between colors

  • Frequently requires hearing abilities to include discerning different tones and volumes

  • Frequently lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.


Working Conditions:

  • Frequently exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)

  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials

  • Frequently exposed to loud noises


Safety Sensitive Position:

  • Responsible for the safety or security of people or property

  • Inspects structures, equipment or vehicles

  • Performs aviation related duties

  • Operate or supervise vehicles, heavy or dangerous equipment or machinery

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:

$29.32 - $40.32
