Cloud Network Application Engineer 

 

Skylo Technologies is a global NTN service provider based in Mountain View, CA, offering a service that allows smartphone and IoT cellular devices to connect directly over existing satellites. Skylo works with existing satellite operators, network operators, and device makers to provide subscribers an anywhere, anytime connectivity solution that seamlessly roams between terrestrial and satellite networks. Skylo's focus is on enabling connected services for people outdoors and connected workflows for machines at work across critical industries such as agriculture, maritime, logistics, mining, and others, in addition to mass-market consumer devices.

 

Skylo is hiring a Cloud Application Engineer for our network engineering team. The selected candidate will be responsible for implementing and supporting a set of satellite-terrestrial hybrid cloud based network software infrastructure. These services enable Skylo’s customers to onboard and manage their connected devices with a cloud-based platform that analyzes and visualizes their data transmitted across this network. Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and support all aspects of our Cloud infrastructure across all environments in our production network
  • Ensure this infrastructure is highly available for our customers and internal developers.
  • Continuously optimize the infrastructure from a redundancy and cost prospective
  • Implement continuous delivery systems to enable simpler, faster, automated and more robust build and release processes
  • Run the network design, documentation, capacity planning, costing and resource optimization for various cloud based applications 

 

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering/SRE experience in deploying and managing large, GCP based environments focusing on automation
  • Experience in GCP cloud redundancy and cloud optimization
  • Solid understanding of the UNIX/Linux operating systems
  • Strong expertise in Networking (TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, SMTP) and related networking infrastructure
  • Good experience with Database administration
  • Good to fair understanding of cellular/wireless/telecom control, management, and data transport infrastructure
  • Strong programming/scripting  experience in either Bash, Python, Go, Ruby on a Unix/Linux platform, using GIT for source control
  • A high degree of organization and be very detail-oriented
  • Excellent leadership, verbal, and written communication skills



Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related technical field
  • Fundamental Computer Science knowledge, including experience in applying common algorithms, data structures and design patterns
  • Experience with SAAS, DevOps tools, processes and culture 
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a proven documentation methodology
  • Expert knowledge in Linux system operation, configuration, troubleshooting, and automation.Experience with VPN and network security infrastructure
  • Experience in production monitoring and metrics reporting
  • Experience working with cloud-native infrastructure on public/private clouds.
  • Experience with Cloud Providers: AWS, GCP, and products like VPC, EC2, S3, RDS, ELB and Route53, Compute Engine, Cloud VPN, Google DNS, Cloudflare
  • Experience with config management tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Saltstack
  • Experience with automation tools like Jenkins and how they enable the CICD pipeline
  • Experience with virtualization, hypervisors, and containers like VMWare, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Strong work experience on Google Cloud Platform and managing cloud resources
  • GCP architectural principles and services such as IAM, VPC, MIG-VM, GKE, Artifact Repository, Cloud DNS, Load Balance etc.
  • Automating Cloud deployment and configuration using Teraform or Ansible scripting
  • Experience in capacity planning, costing and resource optimization
  • Ability to manage access policies, resource permission and applying security policies to cloud network
  • Experience in managing GKE, detecting cluster failure, configuration for alerts and cluster recovery
  • Multi Cloud RDMS Database and Redis Database deployment, installation, operations and maintenances
  • Configuration of GCP infrastructure for logging and Alerts
  • Experience with C-RAN/V-RAN implementations would be a major plus
  • Excellent analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving 
  • Results-driven with strong triage skills
  • Ability to work well with people around the globe and be both highly motivated and motivating
