Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Solutions has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Cyber Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting the Ground-based Midcourse Defense Weapon System (GWS) program.  This position will be in Huntsville, AL.  Additional locations include the following, Colorado Springs, CO, Delta Junction, AK (Fort Greely), and Santa Maria, CA (Vandenberg AFB).

Position Overview:

As a Staff Cyber Systems Engineer for the GWS program, you will play a pivotal role in building and sustaining the robust cybersecurity posture of the program’s classified systems and networks used for development, integration, test, training, and operations. The selected candidate will act as a Cyber Subject Matter Expert (SME) and work towards obtaining a Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Authority to Operate (ATO) and ensure compliance with the Risk Management Framework within eMASS.  

Essential Functions:

  • Support an ATO through its entire lifecycle.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and evaluation of security documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Implementation Plan, Hardware/Software Baselines, Network Diagrams, etc.
    • Ensure all documentation is reviewed and updated on a continuous basis.
  • Maintain system accreditation packages within eMASS, supporting primarily NIST 800-53.
  • Conduct self-assessments of NIST 800-53 controls.
    • Create/Manage Plans of Actions and Milestones (POA&M) originating from assessments.
  • Conduct security surveys at subordinate facilities and gather pertinent security documentation for inclusion into system accreditation packages.
    • Coordinate, prepare, and track inspections, reports, and responses.
  • Upload all security control evidence to eMASS to support security control implementation.
  • Continuously evaluate system security posture.
  • Conduct incident response investigations.
  • Identify vulnerabilities and implement countermeasures.
  • Coordinate with Government Customer to ensure on time delivery.
  • Evaluate configuration changes and their impact to the security posture of the system.
  • Interpret results from network/server/application scanning tools such as Tenable Nessus, Coverity, etc.

This position is currently contingent on program award and associated program award funding. Start dates are determined after program award and funding confirmation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline preferred from an accredited university and  14 years of technical experience in any combination of Cyber, Systems, Software, or Hardware engineering disciplines; OR Masters of Science degree in a STEM discipline preferred with 12 years of related experience; OR PhD in a STEM discipline preferred with 9 years of related experience.
  • Must have at minimum, a current DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level III or IAM Level II Certification (CISSP,CISA).   
  • Demonstrated knowledge of National/DoD/NIST security policies including, but not limited to, DODI 8500.01, DODI 8510.01, NIST SP 800-30, NIST 800-37, NIST 800-53a, NIST SP 800-61, NIST 800-171, DFARS 7012/7019/7020.
  • Experience with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS)/Tenable Nessus Vulnerability Scanner.
  • Experience with Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements for all system development and implementation requirements.
  • Experience with Computer Network Defense (CND) processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Prior eMASS experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • GMD/GWS Knowledge/Experience
  • Experience in working on classified systems in a DCSA accredited environment.

Salary Ranges for Additional Locations:

  • Delta Junction, AK, & Santa Maria, CA.  $181,400 - $272,200
  • Colorado Springs, CO.  $165,000 - $247,400

Salary Range: $173,200.00 - $259,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
