This position will support the NASA EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program’s (EHP) System Engineering and Integration (SEI) Integrated Performance (IP) team, as an integrator to the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) Project – part of the Artemis portfolio at the NASA Johnson Space Center. On this team, you will serve as a systems engineer supporting the SEI IP team as well as Safety Review Panel (SRP) functions associated with the LTV. 

 

Work Model 

This is a full-time position based at Johnson Space Center in Houston TX, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3-5 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.   

 

What You’ll Be Doing  

  • Provide integration leadership within EHP SEI Integrated Performance (IP) Team, as a Program liaison to the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) project throughout project development and mission implementation 

  • Critically evaluate and coordinate EHP SEI and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) support to review all LTV Project and vendor technical baseline products on behalf of the EHP SEI office 

  • Serve as the EHP SEI representative at the LTV Control Board and all critical LTV Project and LTV vendor milestone reviews 

  • Coordinate and execute reviews and serve as the EHP SEI representative for all LTV Project and Vendor Safety Review Panels (SRPs) 

  • Serve as the EHP SEI representative in all LTV contingency and hazard related topics, as well as track relevant risks as the M2M, EHP, and LTV levels 

  • Maintain awareness up and down the chain (M2M expectations, EHP needs, LTV Project needs) and anticipate and resolve disconnects with stakeholders prior to technical coordination meetings on technical baseline products 

  • Participate in provider forums for technical discussions where decisions are made related to concepts, mission architecture, testing/training, requirements, and verifications. 

  • Identify Gaps and Risks in provider implementation goals and objectives with regards to Requirement Compliance and Concepts of Operations alignment 

  • Review and provide technical input to formal products such as Joint Agreement Memos (JAM), Data Requirements Deliverables (DRD), lifecycle reviews, and Ground Rules and Assumptions (GRAs) 

  • Contribute to the development, updating, and review of Program SEI technical baseline documents using Configuration Management Workflow (CMW) tools and processesfor Change Requests (CRs) 

 

What You Need to be Successful Project Engineer- Systems Engineer  

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM discipline  

  • At least 6 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in systems engineering, technical interfaces, and NASA program management environment  

  • Demonstrated experience integrating multiple teams and complex systems  

  • Knowledge and understanding of the NASA program life cycle and associated milestone reviews  

  • Working experience in Configuration Management Workflow (CMW), SharePoint, and wiki pages  

  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise  

  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers  

  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously  

  • Knowledge of space flight certification processes to ensure performance and safety requirements are met  

  • Willing to travel approx. 10% 

  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. 

 

Sr. Project Engineer 

Same requirements as a Project Engineer noted above, in addition to:  

  • Experience leading or organizing technical efforts or project teams 

  • More than 10 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in systems engineering, technical interfaces, NASA program lifecycle, and NASA program management environment  

  • Demonstrated successful experience performing or leading technical and programmatic tasks for NASA , including analysis cycle tasks  

 

How You Can Stand Out  

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: 

  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM discipline   

  • Knowledge of EVA systems, exploration of mobility topics and current technology   

  • Experience with the NASA safety review process 

  • Experience with Human Spaceflight testing, evaluations, and/or operations. 

  • Experience with requirements development of NASA spacecraft systems 

  • Proven ability to interact effectively with government and contractor personnel   

  • Experience with International Partner and/or Commercial vendor integration and coordination
