SUMMARY

Firefly FGSE engineers are responsible for collaborating with other departments to design, operate and maintain launch infrastructure to meet established requirements and determine additional requirements as necessary. The launch team will be instrumental in the design and construction of new, cutting-edge launch sites. There will also be opportunities to support launch operations from the control room as part of your duties. The ideal candidate for this position possesses proven skills operating in dynamic environments with multi-disciplinary teams, as well as a keen ability to solve technical problems.

This position requires collaboration with managers, engineers, technicians, and customers to support mission objectives and complete various process and regulatory documentation. To support our growing workforce on the Launch Team, this role will have opportunities for advancement to a leadership position within 6-12 months of start date.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, install, and maintain launch support systems, including fluids Ground Support Equipment
  • Support launch-day console and red-team operations as required
  • Lead design reviews and operations readiness reviews
  • Plan and coordinate launch site projects with local and remote staff
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues and non-conformances that arise during operations, and support failure and anomaly investigations
  • Work with test site and launch site responsible engineers and technicians to optimize system designs and operations
  • Write and execute procedures to support the operation and maintenance of fluids systems
  • Support development of company processes, guidelines, and training
  • Direct the work of other Fluids and Mechanical GSE team members and support hiring efforts
  • Requires up to 50% travel to test and launch sites to support the overall program needs

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelors’ degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related engineering discipline is preferred. Relevant experience and demonstrated technical ability without degree are also acceptable
  • 5+ years of recent experience supporting fluid and mechanical systems for aerospace ground systems, aerospace vehicle systems, or oil and gas facilities
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure fast-paced environment
  • Strong background in fluids design principals, including fluid dynamics, P&ID design, and specification of components
  • Hands on mechanical experience

Desired

  • Familiarity with data acquisition and control methods, and data analysis tools
  • Strong understanding of first-principles in mechanical and structural design
  • 8+ years of recent experience supporting fluid and mechanical systems for aerospace ground systems, aerospace vehicle systems, or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience with engineering standards and best practices such as ASME, NFPA, NEC, and AFSPCMAN 91-710
  • Familiarity with Bitbucket and Atlassian products, including Confluence and Jira
  • Experience building, troubleshooting or operating complex fluid or mechanical systems
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with skilled technicians

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to pass Space Force background check
  • Up to 50% travel required, including international
  • Must be comfortable stooping and bending, as well as standing for long periods of time to support test and launch day operations.
  • Ability to operate machinery such as forklifts and boom lifts a plus
  • Must be able to work in varying climate environments, heat, cold, rain.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds unassisted.
