As part of the Space Enterprise and Warfighting Division, the Space Warfighting Directorate provides high-quality analytical support to the US Space Force’s Space Operations Command (SpOC), Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), and the United States Space Forces – SPACE (S4S) Field Commands, advising the Government on the design, performance, operational employment and resilience of current and future space forces to integrate into the joint fight and win the next war.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer (Senior Project Engineer - Systems Engineering - Acquisition and Systems Engineering) to support the Battle Management Command, Control and Communications (BMC3) Directorate at Headquarters Space Operations Command. The successful candidate will be able to provide experience-based technical expertise on ground systems, satellite operations, space capabilities, command and control and battle management to support the generation and operational readiness of United States Space Force (USSF) tactical forces to support joint warfighting missions.

Work Model: This position requires 100% on site work at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work closely with customer team to identify programmatic, technical, and mission assurance challenges and develop timely and quality solutions for Data Transmit and Receive Network (DTRN) capabilities
  • Solving the customers hardest problems in the development, fielding, planning, integration, and operational employment of new space combat power and BMC3 capabilities
  • Collaborate in multi-disciplined and multi-organizational technical working group discussions, and provide technical status and recommendations to Aerospace and government leadership
  • Provide the customer with technical assessments of system design, process integrity, and schedule confidence for missions with rapid acquisition timelines
  • Support Space Force Generation (SPAFORGEN) and other activities to assess the readiness of space combat forces for presentation to joint warfighting commands
  • Work with mixed government, SE&I, and FFRDC teams in architecture, strategy, and systems engineering projects and tasks
  • Provide ground and space system engineering support 
  • Providing trusted technical counsel to SpOC on all aspects of ground and space systems from initial concept through intelligence needs, force requirements, enterprise integration, and operations
  • Deliver high quality technical products in a timely manner
  • Exemplify Aerospace corporate values of objectivity and integrity when serving as a trusted agent to our government customers

What You Need to be Successful - Senior Project Engineer – Systems Engineering – Acquisition and Systems Engineering

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or other relevant technical discipline
  • Twelve or more years of increasingly responsible relevant professional engineering experience supporting National Security Space (NSS) missions
  • Familiarity with space tactical mission operations, operational-level command and control, and battle management
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain trusted relationships with government customers and key stakeholders under minimal supervision
  • Experience with the elements and processes associated with a government system acquisition lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to work adaptively on multiple tasks in a small, diverse team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for interactions at all levels of corporate and government leadership
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and additional special accesses, which are issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to travel domestically, with some international travel possible

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Solid understanding of ground system architectures, satellite communications technologies, agile software development, digital engineering/model-based systems engineering, and cybersecurity
  • Experience with NSS operational antennas, networks, datacenters, and communications
  • Current knowledge of operational-echelon command and control (C2) and combat power system technologies, capabilities, acquisition, and an understanding of space and ground systems development
  • Previous work with organizations such as Joint Staff, USSPACECOM, DoD/OSD, SPOs/Centers (i.e. Space Systems Command, Space Rapid Capabilities Office), NRO, MDA and other US agencies and mission partners to assist in understanding the Space Force’s strategic priorities and direction.
  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) /Special Access Required (SAR) accesses
