Front End Developer

This role is open to candidates in Montreal and Ottawa only.  

 

GHGSat offers greenhouse gas detection, measurement, and monitoring services to industrial and government customers around the world. We use our own satellites and aircraft sensors, combined with third-party data, to help industrial emitters better understand, control, and reduce their emissions. 

  

GHGSat’s capability is unique: The company provides high-resolution, local measurements of atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide concentration from space. This further provides the company means to detect greenhouse gas emitters and to visualize and quantify their emissions. 

  

You will join the Operations Systems team as a Front End developer.  The Operations System team’s mandate is to design and deploy software systems that process, manage and store emissions related data.  The team operates using Agile Scrum methodology.  Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  

Responsibilities 

• Evaluate, prove new concepts, develop, integrate, test, deploy and maintain frontend components 
• Implement new features from wireframes and system requirements 
• Contribute to design brainstorms and wireframes definition 
• Optimize data structures, schemas, and queries for most frequent usage 
• Design Frontend Architecture collectively with the team, revisit regularly 
• Collaborate with other developers, across multiple teams 
• Promote Agile Scrum best practices 
• **Candidate should be willing to periodically provide compensated support outside normal working hours.** 

  

Required skills 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in relevant roles 
• Experience programming in Javascript and Typescript 
• Experience with modern web technologies (React.js, node.js, CSS, HTML5, docker) 
• Experience interfacing frontend with backend (GraphQL, REST API, Websocket  
• Capable of understanding, interpreting and analyzing remote sensing data 
• Experience with AWS services (EKS, ECR, S3) 
• Competence with databases (PostgreSQL) 
• Experience using software development tools such as Git version control and Docker 
• Ability to work autonomously, with minimum direction 

  

Assets 

• Experience with OpenLayers/WebGL 
• Experience with deployment using ARGO  
• Interest in scientific analysis, atmospheric sciences, remote sensing and space technology 
• Geographical Information Systems 
• Familiar with the Scrum Agile Framework 

  

Additional requirement 

• Must be able to obtain Canadian government security clearance
