Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking a level I, II, or Sr Avionics Engineer to support design, integration, testing, and maintenance of hypersonic aircraft flight control systems.  This position will include collaborating with other system owners to understand requirements and engineer solutions.  You must be comfortable receiving direction and guidance from lead avionics engineers with component/system development, system analysis, design for manufacturing, hardware integration, and system-level testing, and taking ownership of your responsibilities.
 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, analyze, integrate, and test flight control systems
  • Maintain configuration control over major flight control system elements including wiring diagrams, 3D CAD, work orders, etc.
  • Coordinate with other subsystem leads to develop requirements, test plans, and procedures
  • Coordinate with engineers across a broad spectrum of disciplines to understand requirements and engineer technical solutions
  • Perform analysis to gauge system design adequacy and performance to meet program requirements
  • Coordinate with suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure technical and programmatic requirements are met.
  • Create presentations and support design reviews throughout vehicle development
  • Support ground and/or flight test, as required
  • Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks and mitigations are appropriate
  • Regular and comprehensive communication to the Avionics Lead on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
  • Travel, as needed, to support the department and customer meetings
  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: electrical engineering, avionics, mechanical engineering, electronics, circuit design/analysis, experimental aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration
  • Familiarity with aircraft flight control systems
  • Experience with high voltage electrical systems
  • Experience with electro-mechanical actuation systems
  • Experience creating wiring diagrams and/or circuit schematics
  • Experience with flight vehicle troubleshooting and modifications
  • Experience with electrical design analysis such as power budgets and thermal analysis
  • Knowledge of environmental testing (vibration, thermal, shock)
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with architecting flight control systems for experimental vehicles
  • Experience with troubleshooting Ethernet and/or serial communication systems
  • Experience with being on a Mission Control Center console during flight operations
  • Security clearance
 
Required Computer Skills:
  • Experience in C/C++, Python
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
 
Preferred Computer Skills:
  • Matlab
  • Familiarity with configuration management systems – Jira (preferred)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Level I ($65,000-$94,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 0-2 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level II ($81,000-$118,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 2-5 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Sr-Level ($102,000-$148,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-10 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Mojave Air & Spaceport is located 95 miles north of Los Angeles.
