SUMMARY

As a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Manufacturing Engineer, you will coordinate the procurement and fabrication of a massive portfolio of hardware supporting all of Firefly’s endeavors. The GSE Department is responsible for the design and fabrication of nearly all non-flight hardware for launch vehicles, spacecraft, and R&D, including (but not limited to) launch sites, test stands, transport fixtures, manufacturing and assembly jigs, and payload integration systems. Firefly’s GSE team supports every major program at Firefly: Alpha Launch, A330, Medium Launch, Blue Ghost, and Elytra. On a daily basis, you will work directly with senior leadership, engineers, welders, test technicians, purchasers, and contractors to facilitate high quality, cost-effective, and on-time GSE builds. You will have the opportunity to leverage your knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques to influence and drive simplicity, manufacturability, and operability into mechanical and fluid systems. This position is located at our rocket manufacturing site in Briggs, TX, just north of Cedar Park.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate fabrication jobs through the entire fabrication stage of development, including drawing review, material procurement, material kitting, NDT, assembly, proof testing, coating, and commissioning
  • Direct interaction with technicians to shepherd systems from concepts to first use
  • Performing make/buy decisions to hit project budget & schedule requirements
  • Establish and leverage relationships with key suppliers and internal customers
  • Participation in design reviews, providing feedback on design for operability, serviceability, and manufacturability
  • Creation and upkeep of milestone-based schedules to communicate build progress to stakeholders
  • Identification and dispositioning of potential non-conformances found throughout the build lifecycle
  • Support the weld and fabrication shops by verifying PQRs/welder certifications, reviewing tasks prior to performing work, and helping log the appropriate quality information in Firefly’s internal ERP/MRP systems

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing welded assemblies or structures
  • Knowledge of weld inspections including but not limited to Fluorescent Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, and Ultrasonic Methods
  • Experience with CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Experience with Odoo or other comparable MRP System
  • Organizational skills to consolidate and communicate progress and complex systems and deliverables
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Working/functional knowledge of basic fluid systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey methodologies for assembly and troubleshooting
  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to thrive in high stakes, stressful, short deadline environments
  • Critical thinking and strong decision making ability

Desired

  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1 & D17.1
  • Ability to lift 40lbs
  • Experience working at outdoor job sites and on shop floors, directly with technicians and welders
  • Experience operating or working near mobile equipment such as forklifts and cranes
  • Lift and Rigging experience
