Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

The satellite navigation sector has been evolving with growing pace over the last few years, this largely being triggered by the emergence of the many Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) providers from across the world (e.g. Galileo, GPS, Beidou and Glonass) along with a surge of investment into the downstream application sector for location-based services. In order to define the strategy for the Future Programmes of the Directorate of Navigation in ESA, clear market information and insightful business intelligence are essential to fully understand the underlying movements, trends, initiatives, players, and technology developments in competition between the global players.

This role involves market intelligence support to the Navigation (NAV) directorate. You will contribute to:

• Following developments amongst GNSS providers including satellite manufacturers and satellite service providers and Satellite Navigation markets on a daily basis
• Analysing Navigation business trends and needs of internal and external stakeholders
• Producing concise, timely market information to inform ESA management and representatives of ESA’s Member States
• Supporting the systematic approach for the collection of market information
• Training users of internal business intelligence tools
• Suggesting business analysis tools to support the analysis of the changing environment
• The collection, analysis, and dissemination of socio-economic impact data, looking for innovative new ways to extract insights from large volumes of data that may be available.

Through this traineeship, the successful Young Graduate Trainee will contribute to the further transformation of the Navigation (NAV) directorate programme and activities in response to the ongoing fundamental market changes to prepare future programmes in an horizon until 2040.
