Job Overview & Responsibilities

This position will serve as the ULA Representative at Blue Origin, primarily at their Huntsville, AL facility. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing industrial and quality engineering, engineering design, systems integration, logistics, subcontract management, project management, product technical support, and anomaly resolution for Propulsion Liquid Engines, specifically the BE-4 engine.
  • Understanding of operational and test requirements, and ability to understand, analyze, and critique supplier manufacturing flows and schedules.
  • Supporting system integration and system-level trade studies to optimize operations and/or designs for manufacturing and producibility, and to reduce cost risk.
  • Understanding of quality systems and processes, and ability to provide support to supplier quality issue resolution.
  • Working in person on-site with the supplier of Propulsion Liquid Rocket Engines hardware in evaluation of impacts due to production and testing issues, address any anomalies and work mitigation plans to ensure no impacts to ULA production or launch operations. as well as engine integration and readiness for flight.
  • Supporting product testing at the supplier.
  • Supporting engine integration at the ULA facility in Decatur, AL.
  • Reviewing and inspecting the as-built product (hardware and associated software) and product test data to certify that the final product configuration and performance meets requirements and is ready for test and/or flight.
  • Requires regular travel to ULA’s facility in Decatur, AL, and Blue Origin’s test facilities near Van Horn, TX and at MSFC in AL.
  • Occasional travel to ULA in Denver; as well as Blue Origin facility in Seattle, WA, may be required.
  • Position may also include travel to sub-tier supplier facilities for product evaluation, and to the launch site as necessary to ensure that the product is appropriately supported over the maturation life cycle and to develop strong working relationships with the broader team.

Required Years of Experience

Minimum of 4 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Understanding of liquid rocket engine design, analysis, testing, and post-flight data review.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and management tools, quality management methods and systems.
  • Familiarity with all or some of the following:
    • Fluids and Thermodynamics design/analysis
    • Engine test processes, procedures, and hardware
    • Structural design
    • Dynamics analysis
    • Risk management principles
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime and off shifts as necessary to support operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of contract management.
  • Familiarity with leading technical projects or investigations.
  • Familiarity with Team Center.
