Network Engineer

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Specify network equipment (switches, firewalls, Satcom systems, wireless access points, etc.) needed for the capsule, Land Mission Control, Ship Mission Control, and Space Perspective facilities 
  • Design LAN networks for the capsule, Land Mission Control, Ship Mission Control, and Space Perspective facilities
  • Maintain network hardware for the capsule, Land Mission Control, Ship Mission Control, and Space Perspective facilities
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot modems, switches, firewalls, servers, and workstations on the capsule, Land Mission Control, and Ship Mission Control
  • Manage virtual machines in servers
  • Create VLANs for Ship Mission Control switches
  • Manage logins to mission control workstations
  • Manage IP addressing for network equipment on the capsule, Land Mission Control, and Ship Mission Control
  • Support flights at mission control monitoring network traffic and the health of network equipment
  • Set up temporary 5G cellular systems for testing purposes

 

Qualifications:

  • Advanced working expertise of LAN technologies (HSRP,STP,VLANs and IP-subnetting)
  • Advanced working expertise of ISIS, EIGRP, OSPF, Multicast, and QOS
  • Advanced working expertise of LAN technologies (HSRP,STP,VLANs and IP-subnetting)
  • Good working knowledge of network cabling infrastructure and specifications
  • Ability to travel (no more than 20%) 
  • Must be a strong independent contributor who is a team player capable of mentoring and helping their peers to becoming strong technical peers 
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • Must have a strong technical acumen for corporate network technology infrastructures and the ability to discuss and teach technologies at a technical level amongst their peers 
  • Readiness to contribute to significant refresh planning, major incident resolution and to assist with proposals
  • Ability to effectively communicate issues, remediation plans and status on major initiatives to higher levels of leadership
  • Ability to direct and interact during major outages and/or initiatives
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to interface with non-IT savvy business partners as well as technical staff
  • Ability to articulate challenges effectively to company
  • Ability to construct action plans and provide oversight to ensure delivery

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in related field
  • 5+ years as a hands-on network engineer implementing, designing, supporting and maintaining a large enterprise network
  • Working knowledge of IPV6 implementation and network automation (Ansible, Python, etc.) 
  • Experience with robust corporate change management procedures (design and peer review)
  • Industry certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP) 
  • High level of written, verbal and presentation skills
