The Category Management Strategist will be supporting multiple programs with Foundries and Microelectronics Critical Suppliers across the Mission Systems Sector by aligning program needs and Sector Strategies.  The following are key areas that the strategist is expected to provide inputs, retain knowledge, and problem solve:

  • Market/Technology Knowledge:
    • Maintain detailed knowledge of category and supply base to support development/maintenance of the category strategy
    • Knowledge of market intelligence, emerging trends, broad knowledge of technology area based on technical analysis inputs
    • Responsible for supplier manufacturing capabilities
  • Supplier Capacity:
    • Knowledge of future program forecasts and needs as it impacts capacity assessments and sourcing recommendations
    • Participates in long-term capacity and resource planning to ensure proper scheduling of new product line phase-ins as well as existing product line phase-outs.
    • Assesses capacity for current and short-term manufacturing requirements.
  • Risk Analysis and Mitigation:
    • Manage and support throughout the operational cycle to minimize risks and costs to optimize gain
    • Provides analysis and research for industry and technology and identifies vulnerabilities based on country and geographical area
    • Analyzes lead times and identifies critical path procurements.
  • Supplier Performance and Cost Control:
    • Implements metrics to ensure that savings goals are realized and performance requirements are achieved
    • Develop and maintain KPI tracking system for the category
    • Ensure alternate designs are considered and coordinated across the organization within the division and program facing teams
    • Work with supplier leads to develop effective supplier performance improvement plans for both quality and on time delivery
  • Strategy Planning:
    • Develop, maintain, and execute short- and long-term strategic plan for the category
    • Works with cross-functional teams to analyze supply base risks & opportunities, support program needs
    • Align category strategy with strategic sourcing organization and collaborate with other strategy groups to implement best practices across the larger organization
  • Data Analysis:
    • Collects and publish data using a combination of standard intelligence methods and business processes
    • Develop and maintain a central location for all common sources of data and information to be shared with internal customers and category team members (Sharepoint, Teams, Confluence, etc.)

This position can be hired at a level 3 or a level 4 and be worked as a hybrid remote position based out of the Baltimore, MD facility. Travel will be required 20% of the time.

Typical Minimum Education / Experience

6 Years with Bachelors; 4 Years with Masters

Job Qualifications:

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria.

The basic requirements for a level 3 are:

  • Bachelor’s (5+ yrs experience) or Master’s (3+ yrs experience) from an accredited institution
    • Experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business Management, Manufacturing, Operations, STEM and/or related experience

The basic requirements for a level 4 are:

  • Bachelor’s (9+ yrs experience) or Master’s (7+ yrs experience) from an accredited institution
    • Experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business Management, Manufacturing, Operations, STEM and/or related experience

The basic requirements for both levels are:

  • Detail and Teamwork oriented with demonstrated organizational skills
  • Work both independently and in a team environment; experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills & strategies for supplier engagement
  • Business acumen and ability to make business-based decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking and innovative behaviors in past projects, roles or experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to bring matters/issues to successful closure
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to address complex matters/solutions with Senior Leadership and customers
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
  • US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing and/or microelectronics packaging
  • Experience with SAP
  • ASCM/APICS Supply Chain Certification
  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications
  • IPC-620 knowledge
  • PMP trained or certified
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Possesses current DOD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $102,400.00 - $153,600.00Salary Range 2: $127,000.00 - $190,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
