Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Guidance Navigation and Control (GN&C) Models and Simulation (M&S) Engineer.  This position is located in Huntsville, AL and supports Advanced Programs

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. 

What You’ll Get To Do

Advanced Programs has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) Models and Simulation (M&S) engineer. This is a hands-on technical position--a deep understanding of Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) Models and Simulation (M&S) engineering is required.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. 

Job Qualifications

You’ll Bring These Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM-related field of study from an accredited university and 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, 3 years with a Masters, and 0 years with a PhD
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance with an in-scope investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must be eligible to obtain Enhanced Security Clearances within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs 
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of guidance, navigation, or control algorithm development and/or analysis for launch vehicles, missiles, spacecraft, and/or aircraft
  • Demonstrated experience coding in a higher-level programming language (C, C++, MATLAB/Simulink, etc.)
  • Experience with working in a fast pace, agile environment with the ability to work on cross-function Scrum team focused on quality and capability delivery.
  • Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.
  • Experience in developing GNC algorithms (Guidance, Navigation, Autopilot).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Experience with Agile Development with DoDAF standards and methods

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent advanced degree in applicable technical discipline.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience in trajectory optimization for interception of targets using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Demonstrated experience in equations of motion, control laws, and aerodynamic modeling of missiles and aircraft
  • Demonstrated experience in Nuclear Hardness and Testing for Nuclear Environments
  • Knowledge of estimation and control theory, such as Kalman filtering.
  • Experience in algorithmic application development, integration, and optimization
  • Experience working in an Agile team or even leading a scrum team.
  • Extensive experience with MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and documentation.
  • Experience with the Atlassian tool set, Agile Development, Model Based Engineering, and Software Development best practices

Salary Range: $120,400.00 - $145,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
