WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO: 

Rocket Lab is developing an in-house Hall thruster! This role is a fantastic opportunity to lead the development of a world-class product from its inception through to on-orbit constellation missions. As a Senior Engineer responsible for the thruster you'll direct and perform development engineering on the thruster in the best interest of the company.  

You will own the interfaces with the spacecraft, magnetics assembly, channel assembly, anode and cathode. Risk, cost or quality based decisions are to be identified and mitigated early.  

You will need to provide regular guidance to a highly capable team of engineers and technicians as the thruster grows from an idea into flight operations and further forward into production.

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Contributed to the development of a Hall thruster 
  • Proven CAD design, drawing and GD&T skills 
  • Proven materials selection and analytical skills 
  • Degree in Materials or Mechanical Engineering 
  • 3 years spacecraft industry experience
  • 5 years total work experience 

Direct experience with two of the following: 

  • Development of an electric propulsion system 
  • Flight operations of an electric propulsion system 
  • Production line operations of an electric propulsion system 

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE: 

  • Masters or PhD in Materials or Mechanical Engineering 
  • 8 years spacecraft industry experience
