Description

Galileo Security Infrastructure Engineer in the Galileo System Security Unit in the Galileo System Security Service, Galileo Project Office, Galileo Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.
 
The Galileo System Security Service is in charge of security-related activities for the Galileo core infrastructure, including the end-to-end system security engineering, design and development of the Galileo public regulated service (PRS) infrastructure, security accreditation and cyber security.
 
This Galileo System Security Unit is responsible for the specification, design, implementation and qualification of the PRS, system and segment security requirements within the Galileo Programme.

Duties

You will report to the Head of the Galileo G1 System Security Unit and your main tasks and responsibilities will be to:

 

  • manage the design and definition of the security functions at system and segment level as well as the associated interface control document.
  • contribute to the identification of the system architecture and to the relevant operations concept.
  • coordinate with the segment design review to ensure the proper design of the security facilities and equipment (including the key management facilities and key fill devices), in line with system expectations.
  • manage the segment procurement activities for the security equipment in coordination with the Galileo Space Segment and Ground Segment Management Offices. This task includes supporting the definition of the technical and programmatic baseline and the evaluation of the industrial proposals.
  • monitor the industrial activities relevant to the design development, certification, integration and deployment of the security facilities, ensuring implementation is in line with the technical and programmatic baseline.
  • review the segment test plan, cases and procedures to ensure the proper implementation of the functionality allocated to the security facilities.
  • support the System Verification Engineer in the definition of the system testing with respect to the security chain.
  • ensure coordination on security-related matters in the area of operations engineering in the relevant boards.
  • support anomaly review boards and configuration change boards by assessing security impacts and providing recommendations for mitigation.
  • report regularly to the Head of the G1 System Security Unit.

 

Your duties may also include supporting other activities within your field of competence and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.

Technical competencies

Knowledge and experience of space systems engineering
Experience in satellite navigation, signals and security engineering applied to space systems
Substantial experience in Phase C/D projects
Proven experience in system security engineering (design and verification) for complex systems

Education

A master's in system engineering or a related discipline is required for this post.

Additional requirements

You must have at least five years of technical experience in a field directly related to the position.

You should be able to demonstrate that you can work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure as may typically occur in a project team. You should be result-oriented, able to set priorities, and capable of presenting practical solutions both verbally and in writing.
You should have good interpersonal and communication skills. You should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse, international team environment, defining and implementing solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. You should also have good technical, analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies.

You must be eligible for security clearance from your national security administration.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.

 

Applicants must be eligible to access technology and hardware which is subject to European and US export control regulations and must be eligible for security clearance by their national security administrations. 

 

During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally, successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment, which will be conducted by an external background screening service, in compliance with the European Space Agency's security procedures.
